Platform exclusive games: do they sell consoles?

It's actually an interesting question. One can even go as far as to ask, do graphics intensive games sell hardware? I've played Halo on the PC, really enjoyed it and would want to see the franchise on PC. That being said the exclusivity of the Halo franchise never played a role in deciding to buy a console.
 
In a perfect world where money wasn't a factor I would own both consoles and every exclusive there ever was.
However in my less perfect money-orientated world exclusive games (personally) never influenced my decision when it came to what consoles I bought. I shop for which ever console I prefer.
I have had an Xbox for 8 years now and have recently made the decision to move over to the PlayStation.
I am a huge fan of the Halo series and I will miss it sorely and Titanfall looks pretty amazing too but I am not (or rather can not) pay 6K+ for a couple of exclusives.
 
If I were on the market for a console and didn't know which one to get, I'd weigh up the exclusives of each rather than the hardware/features and base my decision on that. So yeah. I doubt many people would buy a console just to play a few exclusves on it though...

Pretty much the only reason I would buy a console is for the exclusives in regards to whether I get a console or not. Choosing between the two consoles is factor of exclusives, hardware, and number of sales.
 
I bought my PS3 solely for the exclusives. For everything else, there is PC. Bought it with eBucks. If I actually had to pay for it, I probably wouldn't have bought a console in the first place.
 
I like to be in control of my gaming system and not the other way around. So no. They can release the best game in the world exclusively to a console and I would still not buy one. They are overpriced for the performance you get out of it.
