Thinking about switching to Afrihost (3gb @ R87/m)....

Anyone on Afrihost and play Starcraft 2 (EU)? if so....what is the performance like?
if you on any other ISP....who?...how much do you pay?...performance?

general questions....is MWEB a good ISP (they currently have a R79/m for 3gb and 300 free WiFi mins)? ...anyone play SCII on MWEB?
is a shaped account good enough to play Starcraft 2 (EU)?

Hey Remnant

I play SC2 almost every day and I use the Afrihist 3gb account. I've been let down by Telkom with a complete line drop but never from Afrihost. I know its a shaped account but there does not seem to be any lag in the game caused by my connection. I use to be on unshaped when I still played WoW but I've had no need for unshaped since. All shooters hosted on local servers also works perfectly.
The support and online bandwidth top-up functionality works really well.
So its safe to say that you have my recommendation to swap over to Afrihost.

Good luck.

I play starcraft on vodacom 3g and have no problem at all only when that epic fail of a battle net starts lagging and
kick me for no reason

I suspect the ISP alone will not give you a good indication of playability. I play on an afrihost wired 512kb 10gb capped account at home and it plays fine. I've noticed though that when it rains the lag is unbearable.. also possibly at the end of the month. I played a couple of games at my gf's place the other day (afrihost 4mb uncapped wireless) and it was amazingly quick..

Remnant MWeb is fine if you go for uncapped. Their capped offerings aren't competitive for the most part, though I know they revised the price on the 3gb package recently which was decent.

RTS games aren't latency sensitive so pretty much anything ADSL will work. Yes shaped is fine.

Best results will be on WebAfrica Unshaped, but its expensive and not really necessary in this case. Personally I'd roll with Afrihost or Mweb uncapped simply because its the cheapest cap that will be adequate.

@Tachyon: The wiring to your exchange is bad. House side you are permitted to check it yourself, from the telephone pole onwards a Telkom tech will have to help you.

I play using mweb,no worries of geting dropped from the server because your cap just ran out and the other dude scores an automatic victory because you left.
