However the symbols on the controller is a pretty cool factoid.

I should also read up on Riven, never heard of it.

I was under the impression that the black discs were a way of preventing counterfeit discs being sold (in other words much the same effect as the holograms used on the inner ring these days).

thats what i also thought, i also had some purple ps2 discs and then sony decided to make all the discs silver
