New York - In the reality show "The Tester," the top prize is a job.

Sony Corp. is launching the show on its PlayStation 3 on February 18. The premise? Pit a broad swath of video game fans against one another to see who's the best at testing out games.

The winner will get a job as a real game tester at Sony. It's an entry-level job, a way to get a start in the industry.

The show's 11 contestants include a writer from Ohio, a cheerleading coach from California and a used car salesman from Maryland.

Sony says the show is part of its strategy to provide content beyond games on the PlayStation. This includes music, movies and TV episodes.

I don't know hey, just like everything once it becomes a job you might get really bored of playing games for fun. Also remember you are seeing it before it's finished so it might put you off the finished game.

Valid point!

Here is your reality show.

Guys, this isn't just a clever comic joke. This is what game testing is like. Anyone who actually wants to be a game tester is a mad fool.

I agree. I could not sit for hours playing some unfinished crap. And right a couple of pages on it.

Yes. I've had to review some truly abominable games in my time, and people don't realise that means I have to play them too. Aaaaaaall the way to the end.

Had to do one for the sims world adventure recently... not my most memorable hours spent gaming.

Oh, I'm quite a Sims fan myself. I'd much rather play that than a lot of the other shit I've been handed over the last few years.
