Cancer-stricken Inkatha Freedom Party MP Mario Oriani-Ambrosini on Wednesday made an impassioned plea to President Jacob Zuma and his government to decriminalise the medical use of dagga.

Don't see this happening in SA anytime soon. The general public is still way too conservative, despite evidence that alcohol and cigarettes do far more damage than marijuana ever has.
 
I cant see this happening for a long time, if ever, at most they might eventually allow it for medical reasons only.

Im glad they put the question out there though
 
Yup recreational use of Marijuana is legal in Colorado and Washington, they have tons of shops selling different types.

I think its still frowned upon to smoke in public but your more than welcome to buy and smoke in your own home.
 
Think the main issue holding it back would be regulation. Society in SA is still quite conservative, and a lot of people are still uneducated when it comes to the facts about marijuana, and due to this, the costs involved in setting up something like what Colorado has done would be heavily criticized by the public. They may argue that the government should rather spend that money on things like basic education services rather than an extensive regulatory service to control the production, distribution, and use of medicinal marijuana.

Hell I never understood this its ok to drink yourself into a drunken rage but toke on some weed and your the devil.Fuck that.
 
I won't complain if they legalize weed, so long as it's tracked for legal evidence later in child custody cases, medical certificates etc.

IE you register and get a card which is then linked to your ID number and also maintained on a database like in America and Netherlands, a weed passport to purchase weed if you will. I still believe we need some way of controlling it and also allow prospective employees, adoption agencies, courts etc access to this information.

And yes if I could excessive alcohol abuse would also be on a register
 
I have never tried weed, but don't understand how they allow alcohol and cigarettes to be widely available, yet demonise Mary Jane
 
Heard someone on the radio this morning that phoned in that was doing work on a new type of plant that grows in sa up in the mountains somewhere that has analgesic properties , its similar to marijuana but has no thc so its does not make you high
