Please help a new PS3 owner to choose a game

Thanks for reading.

I've recently bought a second hand PS3. I always said I'd buy one just for God of War, so naturally I've already bought all of those. The problem now is that I need some guidance as to what trilogy I should buy first between the following:

inFamous
Killzone
Uncharted

Thanks for helping and please let me know if I've missed an essential PS3 exclusive which is available in a trilogy pack or a collection pack!

Note that if bandwidth isn't an issue for you, you might want to consider PlayStation Plus.

InFamous 2 is among the free games on offer. You better move on it as they frequently rotate out the free games.

I wouldn't bother with Killzone 1 and 2 unless you are planning to become a franchise fan or something. Killzone 3 is the best one in terms of graphics and gameplay. They are pretty generic shooters.

If you are looking for a good shooter on PS3, also check out Resistance 3 - great story and gameplay in that one.

The Uncharted series never really captured my attention. Story-driven action-adventure 3rd-person shooter with an modern-day Inidana Jones vibe. The series is highly praised because it broke ground in terms of visuals, and also had pretty slick design. Plenty of spectacular set-pieces - press X to win! Underneath the impressive veneer it's a fairly generic 3rd person cover shooter with some linear platforming elements.

Again, in this case go for Uncharted 3 as it's the best in the series and has been enjoying regular updates and multiplayer support.

InFamous is probably your best bet if you want to get into a series (there are only 2 games released so far). Your decisions from InFamous 1 will carry over into InFamous 2, but don't think it will be all that significant. It's a nice touch but doesn't really affect InFamous 2 that greatly.

You'll be seeing a pattern to my advice by now - go for InFamous 2 and skip 1. They ironed out some of the design flaws from 1 while retaining what made it good. Of all the games mentioned you'll probably get the most longevity out of InFamous 2 as it's pretty massive. Also, it has a nifty feature of community designed and shared missions that can be injected into your play experience, so it's a pretty robust game.

Finally, if you enjoyed God of War I'd like to throw in a suggestion for one of my favourite games - Dante's Inferno.

Thanks for the helpful reply. I actually bought a PS3 and GoW because of Dante's Inferno. I enjoyed that game so much that I desperately looked for a similar game. I've played so many games on my Xbox by now, I thought it would be a great time to play those elusive PS3 gems.

Uncharted is something spectacular, a must-play for any PS3 owner. But as James said, if bandwidth isn't a problem, get PlayStation Plus.
 
Definately check out PS+, or even check out what's on special at https://store.sonyentertainmentnetwork.com/#!/, they have super good prices, and you can check what "free" games you'd get if you do sign up on ps+.

Uncharted is a must play IMO, and inFamous is great as well, and you can get inFamous 1 free on PS+, as has been mentioned, and Sleeping Dogs, which was also lekker.
 
I vote for Uncharted Trilogy
If your into open world games then Go with inFamous
Also try Heavy Rain and The Journey on PSN Store
 
It's starting to look like I will be getting all of them then! No point in buying a PS3 if I'm not going to play them all.

One more question:

Is GT5 worth it if I've played all the Forza titles?
 
Have a look at the Gta series! It is very entertaining with loads of things to even after finishing the story missions.

Gta IV has been out for a long time so you might even pick up a platinum copy or a second hand copy from BT Games.
There are two extra story lines that interlinks with Gta IV namely the ballad of gay Tony and The lost and the damned.

I find that the ballad of gay tony is by far the best out of the three because it has more challenges and another plus point is the parachutes and the "buzzard" helicopter.

The infamous series is also great. Every decision you make efects the outcome of the ending meaning it will make you want to play the game again to see the alternate ending.
 
Also Gt5 is worth looking at if you have a bucket load of patience.... It takes very long to progress and it is very difficult.
I actually borrowed a copy from someone to try it before I buy it and I am glad that I did not buy it.
 
Uncharted is a must have, but the others are good suggestions too. GT5 as said, needs patience, hence I don't have it, but aren't there a lot of updates out there for it as well?
 
Wow just on a side note. I played God of War 1 and 2 first to get around the stories. I recently started GoW 3 and i must say i have never seen such a beautiful game. I hope i keep getting surprised like this.

Just to bump the thread a little, you say you are looking for any games as well right?
My advice is to get hold of Tomb Raider and Bioshock, great great stories and loads of play time, it will keep you busy.
Uncharted 2, apparently is the best in the series, so get that. Also another awesome game to look into is Assassins Creed. Start at 2 tho, or at 3, 3's story is epic and long, with tons of side missions, whereas 2 is just plain awesome.

For a 1st person shooter, COD Black ops 2 or MW3 is the way to go, as well as Battlefield 3.

Racing, get hold of Racedriver GRID, or wait for May for GRID 2 :)

Yeah... what you guys think?
 
If you have never played assassins creed i would say start with the 1st one.
It will get you into the story and then once you start with number 2 or brotherhood or revelations it will just be 100 X more awesome.

The 1st game was nice but from number 2 onward it was just amazing.

I would also say try the Mass Effect series, i just completed ME3 this weekend and really want to see what happens in the game if i change a couple of my choices.
