PLEASE HELP -- Sharing 3G data over a network via 3G dongle and 3G router.

Hi Everyone,

I would like some help.

Our telkom lines was "SA Borrowed" Thursday night or Friday Morning and since then we did not have any phone or ADSL lines at our office. ( about 3/4 of the office park does not have any phones or internet)

We decided to get a 3G dongle and Router to share internet in the office.

At first the new TP-link router did not work with our new Vodacom dongle, the router just did not want to connect with the vodacom dongle at all so we took it back the the PC shop where we bought it and they tested it and called the supplier and we eventually had to buy a TP-link dongle that was compatible.

So the people at the office told me that they could setup router with the dongle to share internet via wifi as long as the router was not connected to our current network.

I then told them to give the new router a static IP that's in the range of our network and connect it to the network.

so they tried that and then there was no internet.

they then switched off our ADSL router (not our DHCP server) and allocated it's IP to the new 3G router.

still nothing.

We have a mitel PABX that is setup as our DHCP server, our ADSL router is connected to the PABX with a cable and 2 more cables run from the PABX to our office, it sits in the office park's basement, and then connects to 2 POE switches that in turn powers our phones and lets us connect to the internet.

We have tried everything that we could think off but we just cannot get the 3G modem to share its internet via our existing network.

Has anyone else used a similar setup that could perhaps give me some advice.

Thank you all in advance.

Hi Bud,

Couple of questions.

1. Do you get internet directly from the router when its all connected?
2. If the Mitel manages the DHCP and the router is directly connected to it, then i gather there was a static IP in the router and that IP was setup on the Software web interface of the Mitel.... correct?
3. If you add google dns (8.8.8.8) manually to your IP configuration does it work?
4. In your PBX software / web interface can you gain access to this and change settings etc?
5. Does the PBX automatically dial your DSL account for you and is your router set to bridge mode, or does it just dial up with the user account details in the router itself?

Hi Roomys,

1. Yes, i was told that the The 3G router did have internet when people connect to it directly.

2. Our ADSL router was/is setup with a static IP. It was used as our gateway.

3. I think we already used that in our ADSL router. I don't know if you can set it for 3G router. I don't t6hink they did if they could.

4. yes

5. The router dailed on its own.

Just a quick update... telkom has restored the phone and ADSL lines in our area. but if you have an idea what we did wrong we will set it up that way next time it happens :)

Hey good news man.

Well if it works when you connect directly to your router and not when connected on the PBX network then there seems to be a routing issues on the PBX side, based on the information i have.

Now that it is working with the DSL, you need to get your techs to check all the settings on both the router and PBX and see how they communicate.

Thanks Roomys.

I will check it out, for some reason i cannot connect to our PABX anymore.

thanks for the feedback.
