Hi guys,

I currently have a Telkom ADSL uncapped 1mbps line, and for some reason it is VERY SLOW 10 - 15 to open a web page, I have called Telkom and they say everything is perfect on there side.

I want to move over to a new ISP and I will still use my telkom 1mbps line, but I am looking at going Uncapped and Unshaped, do you think this will help speed up the net a bit if so PLEASE would you refer me to a GOOD ISP that offer a uncapped unshaped package for a 1mbps line

I have a telkom ADSL line with a MWEB 1MB account and so far i havent experienced issues at all.. Their customer service is really good and they have very affordable pricing as well.

So i'd say, take the time and maybe give them a call. You wouldn't make a mistake :D
 
I've been finding the internet at work and at home horribly slow lately. I think Telkom might be having some issues
 
mate of mine has mweb 1mb uncapped..but shaped.only problem with shaped is that during the day,youtube vids and torrents are slowed,thats it(and its still alot faster than my 384 line).so you could be saving alot of money if you get shaped
 
jsut thought id drop in.

Telkom 1 Mb uncapped is shaped during the day and can go down as low as 256 speed afaik.

Try the new afrihost uncapped. for 1MB although Mweb did brng down their uncapped to R199.

and yes the daytime performance can be WAY better on another ISP after using the throttled telkom.
 
I have an Axxess Just uncapped account, which is semi shaped. I love it! Youtube is full speed all day long, max out line speed after 5PM no mater what I'm downloading. It's unshaped over the weekend too.
 
Telkom tends to have a lot of problems in general, but if you have a 1MB uncapped account it shouldn't take 10-15sec for a single webpage. Only time it will do that is if you have been torrenting like crazy and have exceeded their FUP, then they might just be shaping you. Pings and trace routes are always helpful when trying to figure out if it is an ISP problem or a localized problem such as a faulty ETH adapter or cable, or even a faulty line filter can cause big problems.
 
im using axxess, 4mb line, but i get horrible speeds! if im downloading a torrent for example i get maybe 200kb/s if im lucky. Yes there are peers etc , alot of them. Even http downloads are slow. shouldnt i be getting atleast 1mb download speeds?

Sound like you are being throttled to half your speed, which is exactly what Axxess does to the highest users, according to their Acceptable Usage policy. This is if you download more than 20 Gigs in a 10 day rolling period(iirc).
 
I am using an afrihost 1Mb shapped account and or downloading and youtube it is more than perfect, I've never had an issue in that department
 
Theres alot of things that can cause your problems its possible its not a fault on telkoms side. How many computers are on your network, what programs are on your pc that can use the internet, there are alot of factors. Have you run antivirus and anti spyware on your pc? I work for Online Direct ISP we work more with business`s so i wouldnt recommend us if ur mainly looking to game. best way to try test your network have 1 pc on the network make sure any wireless is disabled so that other people havent "hacked" your network, and then try do a speed test. Just make sure you dont have any torrent programs open and ensure the pc is virus and spyware free. if your speedtests still come back extremely slow then you should look at another provider :) hope it helps
 
I raved about MWEB in another post, but recently found that my torrents are shaped to 0.1k during the day. This is really irritating...

About 3 weeks back, I was still getting 160k during the day, with torrents, on a 1Mb uncapped line.. it's almost as if they changed the shaping policy.. but then again my colleagues don't see the same thing happening.

I have also9 tested with an FNB unshaped capped account, and there I get full speeds... so it must be MWEB.

Why would I be shaped so MASSIVELY, while everyone else is still getting good speeds?
 
Internet solution aacounts are the only accounts ive found that dont get shaped during the day, I use an uncapped account 4mb and the line is 4mb average torrent downloads speeds between 350 and 400+kbps :) i got my account through Gamco www.gam.co.za nt sure on the latest prices but maybe have a look :) hope it helps
