PolarfluKe "pushed aside" by NAG, MSSA - organisations respond

“NAG had not kept to its part of the agreement and with the league coming to a close, there was no money besides that pledged by the sponsor I had brought in,”

“We never cancelled the league, Polarfluke did. It was cancelled telephonically where someone from Polarfluke (not even Matt) phoned to say they were pulling out.

So if I understand right NAG didn't pay up the sponsor money they said they would, and that's why polarfluke pulled out of the comp? Or did he pull out of the comp and that's why NAG didn't provide the money?

/confused

Regarding the response from NAG. They wanted the gamers' information so that they could run the finale of the tournament without Polarfluke after most of the work has been done by someone else up to that point.
I don't see how they are trying to spin this as a good thing. Trying to take the credit for the work done by someone else. Not cool.

The fact that they claim no payment is/was necessary because it was never put into writing is a clear blunder and lack of professionalism from both parties. I hope they learn from this and realize that even in the gaming industry time is money and when you passionately work at something you love, it is still work.

The gaming industry needs to be as professional as any other industry or else it will always be taken just as serious as most other things that are done for free.

+1

You have to get everything in writing. However some part of me has a suspicion that PolarfluKe may have it in the form of emails. Of course I may be completely wrong.

MSSA just look like jerks.

Oh how I would love more information! Work has been so boring today and this is very interesting.

From what I gathered there, it was NAG's responsibility to get a sponsor for the prize, and failing that sponsor the prize themselves. They got a sponsor, but for some reason PolarFluke expected R150 000, which was never discussed or put in writing.

That's what I took from it, at least.

I'm sure those chops at NAG have been involved in this type of BS before iirc. Think it was quite a while ago, will try to remember

The thing it looks like to me and people can prove me wrong. BUT the thing i see thats "cock blocking " ( not sure if i can say that ) is the MSSA. I have been following them around and seeing what they do ect ect and its all kinda ... Meh. They say that where else can you get X Y and Z. But the main face it for anyone to represent South Africa in gaming they have to be with MSSA. Thats why only a select few people can play against international players and represent SA.

I mean BVD is a good clan but is the son of colin not in BVD or was or something. I feel that MSSA try to make something of gaming in SA witch is good but they working with old board games rules and terms. It feels like what hes doing is saying ither you work with MSSA or i will make sure you never represent SA> Thats just how i feel i could be wrong. But i think im not the only one that thinks this way about it.

2 hurdles in life that polarfluke has overcomed, i was in the monthly sc2 comps back in the 2010 days even though it i got my assed kicked, watching streams and chilling in IRC chatting it was fun :) much more than a mssa event (cant say for ngl as havnt been in one)

Remember, if you can find a path with no obstacles it leads to nowhere.

Ok, so the NAG "who dropped who first" confusion aside (sounds like someone did not put things on paper to me).

What exactly was the issue with the MSSA thing with the "competitor"? How do you even have "direct competitors" in this type of business situation where you rely entirely on sponsorships ? It's like Red Bull sponsoring their own F1 team -and- throwing some money at your team (which didn't have any money before) and then you complain about plastering red bull stickers on your car? Or am i missing something?

Who is the "direct competitor" anyway? Mweb? How is Mweb a direct competitor? I don't quite understand the business model going behind "Event Hosting" , so someone please inform me. I would think if you're passionate about hosting events and growing the -community- , then you would welcome sponsorship from anywhere, especially from other companies also hosting events themselves (and not see them as "competitors" in the first place ).

What did PolarFluke expect MSSA to do , or rather "negotiate" about? Companies sponsor events for marketing reasons and generally nothing kills a deal faster than trying to make rules as to how they can market.

My drama sensors go wild when i hear things thrown around like "for the players and the community" and yet there are "direct competitors" in all this?

The drama is because for the most part, SA gaming is full of sticklers 'in charge' ...... they have stupid draconian rules and regulations (mssa), ego's (nag) and enough red tape to go to CT and back.

Meh @ all of it
