Yet again Graeme Smith has failed with the bat. He has been given a lot of criticism and 80% of the time he deserves what he gets! He has given up the captaincy so he can "focus" on his batting, can see how that is working out for him! There have been a couple of older players that have not been performing and have lost there place, Boucher coming to mind. So I wonder how long it will take for the selectors to man up and make a stand! Would also nice to know how much money it takes to secure your position in the team, I have heard and read a lot of articles that Graeme Smith's Father is pumping a lot of money into the South African Cricket Union.

So my question to MyGaming cricket fans Does Graeme Smith deserve his place in the South African Team?

The guy is not up to standard anymore and we should really play a game or two this series without him and judge from that.

Everyone keeps saying "but look at his record". Sure, but his record is getting poorer by the day. Time to move on biff. Plus personally he's a prick.

I am not a cricket guru and asked the same question to one of my friends, this guy knows everything about the team and the individual statistics of the players. Apparently if Graeme Smith is on form on the day he hits 50's and 100's but I watched the test matches and he did not perform. I think it is that people have a lot of respect for the guy and do not want to drop him.

Sure the cricketing wold does have a lot of respect for him and what he has done for SA cricket, but the last time he performed in a ODI was 14 matches ago in 2009! And yes the chances of the team doing well when he does well is very good! But when he is in bad form he does put a lot of pressure down the order! Fortunately Amla, Kallis and AB de Villiers managed to keep it going to put on a decent score! But Sri Lanka never play well away from home only winning 3 of there last 18 matches against South Africa in South Africa. I really hope these last 4 ODI's will be the deciding factor for Smith because if they take him on tour to New Zealand and England afterwards with out him getting some runs we are going to have problems in the future.
