Potential cure for AIDS discovered: study

An Australian scientist said Wednesday he had discovered how to turn the HIV virus against itself to stop it progressing to AIDS, describing it as a major breakthrough in finding a cure for the disease.

David Harrich, from the Queensland Institute of Medical Research, said he had successfully modified a protein in HIV that the virus needed to replicate and instead made it "potently" inhibit virus growth.

David Harrich, the man that potentially found a cure for aids, has died after he accidentally tied his hands and feet together and set his lab on fire with all his research in it. A representative from Pfizer was quoted saying "This is a terrible tragedy to the medical field and the work he was doing. But the world can rest assured that we will continue delivering quality antiretroviral drugs at affordable prices"

wasn't there a guy from WITS that mutated a cancer strain to fight aids? was in the news some time late last year I think
 
It will save allot of lives. But then overpopulation is a problem :p TBH I would rather choose aids then over population.
