Power Limit Percentage and FPS stutter

Hey guys,

For sometime now I have been having these fps stutters ingame and its been driving me nuts! I formatted, downloaded the latest drivers, updated my BIOS and did in-depth tweaking on all the "power saving" options I could find in my BIOS. But to no avail...

I then stumbled across a thread that spoke about upping your Power Limit on ur gfx card to 20%. So I did this and it seems to have resolved my issues. I have seen that when im not using my card, the mem and clock are very low and as the demand increases so does the mem/clock. From what I understand that sudden need for more juice can cause this stuttering, so this gfx card setting helps to alleviate this.

I was wondering if any1 else is having this issue and could test this on their machine?

What GPU do you have?

The memory and clock speed is underclocked during times when the GPU is not needed because it reduces the power required by the card. Those clocks usually jump up as soon as you open a game though, so the stutters won't be because of that.

Upping the Power Limit for the GPU will only allow the card to draw more power from the PSU. The only reason I can think of that would have helped you is because your card runs hot it requires more power to keep the card performing properly.

I haven't had this problem though.

sorry my system specs are:

I7 4770
16gb Kingston Beast mem
Sapphire 7970 vapour-x
Samsung 256gb ssd for games

Under full load my card sits around 60C, give or take.

Just an update I have changed the Sata cable connected to my SSD drive and that has seemed to help, but I am still noticing some stuttering. Just need to test more.

Anyone else had this or maybe has some suggestions for me?
