So I moved, yes it sucked thanks for asking.

Anyway so my pc is now in my bedroom and at night i can literary hear my ups humming even if its off, I have to kill the input power completely to shut it up.

Which comes to my question, is it bad to completely power off your rig daily, i'm obviously talking dead cold no standby power whatsoever plug out of wall i'm a tombstone lack of juice.

logic says no, but my paranoid nature says must research

I turn my PC off due to paranoia - and a bit due to laziness. I ain't climbing out of bed to unplug during a thunder storm at night :p

I think it's on the safe side to unplug, especially with spring's stormy weather.
The only real bad thing is that your PSU works a bit more every time you power on.
Most PSUs have over/under voltage protection. If your PSU has that feature, then your hardware won't be affected.

I have always turned my PC off at the end of every day. Using shutdown though, not the power button.
Even my PC at work and I've never had issues. Makes sense to turn it off to me, unless I've got a download going.

Since he has a UPS that shouldn't be an issue though should it? UPS's usually give you nice clean power and filter out all the little spikes and dips and stuff

Oh lol, my head read PSU isntead of UPS.
UPS will handle power spikes as you mentioned :)

I wonder though if it's good for a UPS to be unplugged every night. The battery might take some strain...

Absolutely no reason to switch off your pc at night.
If the power and sleep options are set up properly then its fine having it running 24/7.

This totally depends on the UPS. Just saying you have one means nothing.

The real question is which one and what is the rating. (See Standby & Line interactive vs Online in the wiki)

If he has a Standby UPS total power off everyday is fine for the UPS but doesnt really protect the PC
If he has Line interactive or Online thats better at protecting the PC running, but you might cause wear on the UPS's and more so the battery.

The noise drives me nuts. ..bzzzzzzz. I usually shut down machine but technically even a complete shutdown while still plugged in has standby power. I'm taking about the equivalent of plugging it out the wall
