Problem with Dlink 2640U

For the past three days, I have pressed the power button on my ADSL router, only to have all four network connection LEDs flash on and off. None of the other LEDs
[power, status, wlan, dsl or internet] light up.

What has worked for me so far is to hold down the recessed reset button at the back of the device, but I am concerned that my router may be on the way out.

Have any of you experienced a similar problem and how did you resolve it?

I have the same router and never experienced it.

Maybe it is about to give the ghost up?

Drat!

I have had it for two years. How long do these things usually last?

Have you tried updating the firmware on the thing? It's VERY concerning that your Power LED doesn't come on but the LAN LED's obviously show that there IS power. Do you always keep your router plugged in? If so, lightning could have helped it on its way?

I have not yet tried that.

It is normally plugged in. Electrical are rare in these parts though-certainly at this time of year.

I'll see if I can track down a firmware update before coughing up the hard-earned for a replacement then.

Ta

Is it significant that my router functions properly after I have held in the reset button?

There do not appear to be any firmware downloads available for my 2640U

I think you should hold on before buying a new router. You said you did a nice hard reset and it started working again. I'd say that's a good sign. I have the exact same router and sometimes it just erases my ADSL login configuration. So it's a pretty weird modem/router.

The fact that it's working normally now means that it was probably some weird software glitch. If it really was a power issue, it wouldn't have come on at all.....and there's usually a funny smell in the room (lol)
