Project Cars 2 has an official release date! Their new "Soul of Racing" teaser trailer was shown at E3 today and included a release date of 22 September.

PCars 2 comes with some significant changes, additions and updates from the first version. The one's I'm most interested in are the new licences they've secured from Ferrari and Porsche, and PC2 now being the "official game of IndyCar" and the addition of RallyX. On the gameplay side, I'm hugely excited to see how the new Live Track 3.0 system works with a full field*- a constantly evolving track surface should bring a whole new aspect to especially longer races.

This vid highlights these and a few other changes that virtual racers should appreciate:

 • Over 170 licensed cars from the most iconic brands
 • The largest track roster of any console racing game including ice and dirt tracks
 • New vehicle types and motorsport classes including Rallycross, IndyCar, and Oval
 • Dynamic time of day, weather, and new seasonal conditions
 • New Online Championships mode
 • LiveTrack 3.0 powers dynamic surface conditions that affect vehicle performance and handling, and evolves the track over the course of a race weekend
 • Esports built-in from day one with full ranking, and broadcasting/streaming functionality
 • Bleeding-edge tire physics, advanced AI, and intuitive gamepad control
 • VR, 12K, 21:9, and triple-screen support built-in
The official Project CARS website has a lot more videos and info, and the games' Steam Store page is up (but no pricing on it yet.)

*I'm a WMD/PC2 early backer member and have had access to daily development builds of the game for almost 2 years now - I've seen Live Track 3.0 working myself, but only in terms of solo play with AI. I'm keen to see it in action in a multiplayer environment with other live drivers.

[Mr. Mod Sir (aka Solitude), didn't want to necro the original year+ old Project Cars thread but if this would be better as additions to that thread, please move it on over.]

Mwhaha ban hammer time!

No seriously, it's a new game and fully deserves its own thread. Nice thread by the way. :)

Surprisingly, I am not that interested in Project Cars 2. Maybe it's because I didn't find the first one all that amazing. I'm in no means saying it was bad at all, it's just there was always something else in the genre that I would have rather played. But I will now watch these supplied videos and become informed... kthnxbye.

PC1 undeniably had (still has!) some technical issues, most notably in the console versions. I do get the impression though that SMS have taken note of much of the criticism (especially as a bulk of the sales of PC1 came from console users) and are trying hard to find the balance between a better all round user experience without losing the realistic sim nature of the game in the new version. The time and focus they're putting into gamepad control is just one example of this.

Your second point is very valid too. Project CARS has a lot of well established competitors in the driving games genre. Grid, Dirt, Forza, Gran Turismo. With Forza now available on PC as well as XBox, even more so. This late 2017 release will possibly see PC2 on "shelves" alongside Forza Motorsport 7 and GT Sport and for cash-strapped gamers the choice will probably be to go for the more established and known titles. Personally, I think they should have held off their launch date reveal for a few days to see what MS show and reveal for FM7.

Personally, I'm all for the little indies who are brave enough to take on the big studios and publishers and who are still able to produce a decent product. PC1 was made by a small team for around $5-million, and even with its' limited licensed content still managed to sell fairly well. Certainly enough for them to taken a lot more seriously by manufacturers and circuits this time around. I guess that, and having a weird fascination with the whole games development process (even though I don't understand 99.35% of the technicalities of it!) are what gets me hooked on games like this, Star Citizen and Kingdom Come.

Been scare lately - busy with work and life stuff - and only have had minimal time for games. Most of that has been playing around in PCARS2. Spending my time in low tier career races (Clio Cup at the moment) against weak AI and tooling around in free practice mode in some classic Ferraris. And taking screenshots. lots of screenshots. It is very preeeetty.
