PS Vita - General Questions

I haven't seen a dedicated thread for the Vita, so here it is.

I'm gonna start off by asking what a Vita is like and for users thoughts on it. I am thinking of getting one from FNB and though I'm not much of a mobile gamer, I'm trying to understand the target market and reasons for getting a Vita. One of my primary thoughts is for the purpose of my son, though he's only three years old he already knows how to operate my phone!

What kinda games educational or otherwise would be available for him?
I know you can stream games from the PS4 wirelessly?
I see it only comes with 1GB storage, how does this affecting (down)loading games to it?

Please just try and fill in any blanks for me as I have never even layed my hands on a Vita, only a PSP.

A PS Vita is basically just and upgrade on the PSP, the only difference being more modern hardware and it uses memory cards instead of UMD discs.

The sky is the limit really with the PS Vita, even if its exclusives catalog is not that great, it's the versatility of it that makes it great. My fiance loves the thing.

You can check out the PS Vita game catalog on the PSN web store, there are many games that offer entertainment for children. Your little ankle-biter is still on the younger side, but I know a 6 year old that plays Destiny, and kicks ass at it, so he will probably enjoy it. You can also load many PSone titles on it and enjoy all of the indie titles on the store or in your PS Plus library.

You can just download a few smaller games, disable the wifi and he is safe from the internet. The 1gb memory card is slightly tiny, and does not offer a lot of space, some Vita games are 3gb or more when downloaded. But you can swap memory cards, just remember that a memory card is tied to the PS account on the Vita, and make sure that it is the same account as the one on your PS4.

Try and buy one of these http://www.kalahari.com/Games/PS-Vita-32GB-Memory-Card-Mega-Pack-1_p_49769409

10 Games plus a larger memory card. And all of them pretty child friendly.

One thing you need to get for the vita is a case or protective shell and a screen protector. All of the stores like Takealot and Kalahari sell them, because the Vita would most likely shatter when dropped a protective shell is a must. And because it is a touch screen, a screen protector is a definite. Don't forget a wrist strap either.

You can stream PS4 games wirelisly, not all of them but some of them. Just check for the remote play option and you will be able to. On games like Diablo 3, you can use the TV screen and a PS4 remote to play and someone else can play on the PS Vita as a second screen and controller. Strange to set up but it is possible.

Am I going to need to buy a bigger memory card out of the gate, or can the games be downloaded and stored on the PS4 and remote played via the WiFi?

There are 64gb cards available, but not locally yet (maybe through Raru's import service though), but I have a 32gb in my vita and a 32gb in my PSTV. It does alright, but I have to swap games on and off... The swapping does go slow, whether its USB 2 or the slightly faster wifi or wired connection.

Unfortunately, the PS4 won't sync up games. Only PS3 and/or a PC with Sony's Content Manager software. The software doesn't take up much resources thankfully.

I love my vita. I use it a lot more than i thought i would. Definitely get a bigger memory card. Most of the indies are small, but almost all the aaa games are massive. I think borderlands was about 6gig.

I've heard that PS TV can also play PS Vita games or something?

Here is a list of games with a YES or NO and maybe some extra criteria in brackets. Quite a nice selection. I mainly use mine for some of the older PS1 classics and then for remote play for titles that work ok with it (I finished Shadow of Mordor on my PSTV).

I got a vita memory card to download my games as the included 1GB storage is a tad small for some of the games. On the side their is also another slot which takes the physical vita game cards.

Now that I have a PS:TV courtesy of MyG and Solitude and you guys. PS: Thanks ^_^

How can I find out what games I have that may work?
I know I have claimed a few PS+ games since having my PS3/4 and now would like to see which had the cross play/buy feature. You know what I mean?

Is there somewhere I can go that'll show me my owned games and that will work on the PS:TV?

How do I know if a game if cross play?

Apart from looking in the the PSN store, that's it's available on *PS3/PS4/PSvita and then reading under details, "this is not supported on PS TV".

* is this the only way to tell?

Finally got past "The End" boss battle only to find I had missed getting the moss camouflage. Guess I will have to get it at my second play through.

Got the PSTV finally functional but I can see I'm gonna have to get a memory card for it. Now just wondering what games to get, the list is staggering. And a LOT of anime styled games too ^_^

Did you add the Plus Vita games each month to your account? Quite a few nice ones over the years. I bought a 32GB memory card a while back on special from TA, and it's more than enough space for quite a few games. I've already got about 13 or so on mine, and it's like a third full. Had more on it, but that was before I knew about the compatible list, so silly me downloaded and installed a few games like Uncharted which the PS TV does not support.

Also, have you tried the remote play yet?

Yeah, got Velocity Ultra loaded which takes at least half the space so I'm definitely going to need an SD card. Still need to find some way to see which games I've claimed over the time that will be compatible.

Haven't tried remote play as yet, think I had to be online and signed in on the PS4, but my son was watching movies. That may be why it didn't detect anything.

Btw, did you get your package?

I love my Vita, it's especially awesome for traveling. A memory card is a must, considering you get 2 - 3 free games every month for PS+ you need a memory card to get the most out of your subscription.
