PS3 Fail

Donnerse PS3........

See the PS3 I won, has become my GF's best friend (LBP, Blue ray movies etc)

It died on Saterday, upon checking you can smell that the PSU blew. Now if it were a PC, would not have been a problem, but seeing that it's a Ps3.........

Now I have her on my case to have it fixed, but if it were up to me it could gather dust forever......

Does this fall under RMA / Warranty?

It should be dude. I'm not too sure of the process, since you won it and all. This definitely should be covered.

Thanks man :)

I know a lot of PC resellers don't do warranties on PSU units, so that's why I was asking.

Dankie!

Call the help line, should be a number on the box or in the box.
If under 12 months old, they should replace for free.

I realise parts fail but even a 1 year warranty on this seems a little short, especially since an overheating psu can cause damage to other components. I think most things should come with a minimum three year warranty.

I agree. My warranty is nearly done already, got my PS3 last year December...

That's why you'll find plenty of PS3's and X360 Slims on the market where they being advertised as age 10 months or age unknown. People sell them and then just buy new, they still get most of the cash back they paid for the console then add a bit more and buy a new one, just so they know they are covered by warranty.

Not worth the amount of effort it will be to back up everything IMO. My PS3 has plenty of PSN games installed and I don't even want to think about how much of a schlep it will be to back it all up, if even possible, not to mention all my game updates (good example being the multi-gig GT5 patches and updates)...

Im not sure how it works on the ps3 but its actually quite easy on the X360 to back up you're save games ect.
That's probably the only thing that would stop most people from doing it, but you do get plenty of casual gamers that don't really care about that sort of thing.

just pop the ps3 HDD into an external casing hook it up to your pc and create a clone image with ghost ? thats what i would do

^ just read up ghosting wont work, however the ps3 backup tool allows you to clone your drive to an external usb HDD

Yeah a buddy of mine went trough the process when upgrading his hard drive, but some of his stuff didn't work anymore, like GT5, so it meant he had to re-patch it.

That's why I said it's more trouble than it's worth, especially if you have a lot to lose.

PS3 has some content restrictions, the patches normally dont work cause of hacking or something like that, but the save games should be fine. Some of the saves are also protect most EA save for some reason ran into that issue a once when taking my back up from my PS3 Phat 60gig over to my Slim. That was a major pain in the ass.. Cause i had to play some of the games over to get to where i was again, others i didnt mind.

Usually works flawlessly if its back to the same machine... But even then some patches dont copy. weird..

Saves are fine, my PS3 backs mine up to the cloud storage. My main concerns are all my downloads and updates...
