PS3 Firmware 3.42 released, blocks hack - Latest PS3 hacks allow PS2 games on PS3

I wouldn't mind being able to play a few ps2 titles on my ps3 but otherwise...

BURN PIRATE BIATCHES!

Well these articles are going to come up all over for the next few months: "new jailbreak available", "new update to stop jailbreak", "new jailbreak bypasses new patch", etc...

In the end no one is going to care anymore....

Sony simply needs to patch it so any commercial PS3 can never be accessed as a dev unit. If this is the main strategy of the hack (which it seems to be) it will stop it dead in its tracks.

They will hackz0r it again :D

Sony will release new Firmware version, Hax0rs will release new hax0rware version :)

Untz Untz

ARGGG :P

I wouldn't mind having PS2 and PSX playback, but hey, I've got a PS2 for that and if it breaks I just buy a new one.

What reason did SONY give for taking away the ability to play Playstation 2 games?

I have hauled out my PS2 and am trying God of War

Ag geesh. So we're going to have to sacrifice 170MB of our caps every time some genius comes out with a way around their security measures. This sucks. We're going to have to upgrade our consoles every 2nd week for no good reason!

I agree with pretty much everything that's said so far (I am anti-piracy), but I doubt 170mb every second week would stop anyone.

I think it will probably be a smaller update, as I see there are two, the 170 one and what looks like an incremental one of 32 megs? By the way PS One capabilities are on the PS3 for the poster who said he'd like to play PS One games on it.

- Supports the playback and copying PSX and PS2 games (no matter which PS3 version).
- Supports any firmware.
- Supports NTFS Hard Discs.
- Supports copying of Blu-Ray Discs.
- Supports playback of the *.mkv video format.
- Automatic updating of the stick via PC.
- Allows play online without risk of excommunication.
LOl if this is true, these Aussies just fixed almost all of the PS3s faults

Yeah, I would buy the USB stick for these functions, not too worried about playing pirated games...

All PS3's can play PSX titles...

But, here's an idea sony can pursue for those that want PS2 compatibility for the PS3 Slim: Release a patch on PS Store that interested users can buy, download and bob's your uncle!! This way interested users have a choice and your PS2 collection wont go to waste. (This all of course if reports are true that the PS3 Slim is in fact capable of playing PS2 titles, which to my logic, it should be. )
