PS3 jailbreaking is a security risk
Hackers raise fears that jailbroken PS3s can leak personal info to criminals

In all fairness, I would love to know who the idiot was that voted yes!!?! Seriously WTF would you hack your PS3, it's the one console left on the planet that hasn't been affected as badly by piracy compared to the rest of the gaming industry. So why fuck it up now??
Three people voted yes???
Go get a life!
Ya know, some people find it as a cheap PC. 6 PS3s makes a very nice little home blade server cluster, etc. You could maybe get the same processing power if you were to custom build a PC, but this way is far simpler, and managing power etc. is much, much easier. Animators/3D renderers would like to have a small, cheap powerful PC at their disposal. Not everybody buys a PS3 to play games on you know.
Of course, if the other two were saying they'd jailbreak it for piracy...uh, no. Just no.
One could build a state of the art 3D rendering machine for the price of 6 PS3s. But I can also see the benefits of hacking a PS3, but if it is done then one should not take in into online gaming. But in the end of the day if one gets a state of the art rendering machine you will get a lot more performance from it.
I don't see why the PS3 being hacked is such an issue. The PC has been hacked from pretty much day one and is still played by millions. Same goes for the Xbox. So why is everyone so up in arms about the PS3 finally being cracked?
Personally, I have no issue with cracking it. Then again, I will also never play any console game online. To me it's pretty boring. My console is purely for single player games. Online gaming for me is 1st person shooters and those are only playable on PC in my opinion.
PC is a lost cause, Xbox users can be banned of live, so no updates, no dlc nothing. PS3 has been a fortress against piracy and now it is wide open to Piracy which in turn could cause bigger grievances for paying customers.
Well, at least now they can't only blame PC for piracy![]()

I don't see why you shouldn't be allowed to jailbreak your ps3. Saying that jailbreaking PS3's is bad is the same as saying buying blank DVD disks is for pirating only.
Even the US Air Force uses PS3's for cluster computing and for enthusiasts who enjoy tinkering with electronics, the PS3 is a perfect box to play with.
Here's the US Air Force's cluster of PS3's...

I jailbroke my iPhone because it was network locked. I don't see why I should be forced to use a piece of electronics as prescribed by any one company - as long as I'm not breaking any laws doing so.
Agree a 110% but you have to agree 90% of people with jailbroken ps3s aren't doing it to make blade servers. So the guyz who really just want it for that purpose should be equally pissed at the parasites since it is due to them that such action is being taken. Had the crack come out and no, or acceptable percentage, piracy occurred then there would have been no big ho-ha about it. So not only is the parasites shafting us legit consumers they are also shafting these technophiles who tinker with their toys.

So who is to say Hotz isn't one of those geeks using it for innocent purposes? He posted his results so that others could do the same. The fact that their are those who use it for piracy is not his fault.
How can you agree 110% with one guy saying he jailbreaks his toys, but object to the guy who actually made jailbreaking possible? To me this is simply lets lambaste the hacker cause all hackers are evil and must die. Hotz did NOTHING illegal! The fact that his efforts now make pirating the PS3 possible is not his fault. Obviously he knew it would happen, but that is not his fault.
If you could develop the cure for cancer and Aids and whatever else, but also knew that the same drug could for instance make men impotent or would kill people who use it as a poison, must you not make the drug? Maybe not the best comparison, but I think you get the idea. You can not blame him for other peoples' actions.
