PS3 Networking

Is it possible to connect a PS3 to a LAN so that you can play multiplayer with PC users?
I am a PC gamer myself but I have a friend who loves gaming but only has a PS3 and he asked me if this is possible as he would love to be able to game with the rest of us. For all I know this is the dumbest question ever asked here but any feedback would really be appreciated.

Unfortunately it is currently impossible to cross-LAN between PS3, Xbox 360 or PC. I think there was one game that could be played between 360 and Windows a while back, but my memory is sketchy. Definitely no way to mix PC gaming with PS3 on a network.

Shadowrun was what it was called. Didn't do to well though, something about balance between xbox and pc gamers.
