PS3, Router, 8ta Question (Connectivity issue)

Hey guys,

I recently bough a TP-Link MR3220 router to set up my wireless network at home.

Little bugger works like a charm but I'm having some ps3 connectivity issues.

Sure, everything connects to PSN fine. I am able to download updates etc but cannot enter lobbies for online games. As soon as I try it gives me an error "Online connection failed" or the like. I've tried a number of titles now so I'm sure it's the connection. I switched from iBurst to 8ta and then the new router. Never had this issue with iBurst.

I'm not that clued up on router settings so I'm thinking it's a setting somewhere i've missed?

Anyone got suggestions?

Thanks!!!

whats your DNS settings ?

Im using the huawei B970 router successfully with 8ta

Hey Viking,

Not sure what my DNS settings are as I am at work. But I tried DMZ last night and wont work either. Like I mentioned, connect to PSN fine...just having trouble joining online lobbies.

Any suggestions? The DNS?

Hi symbol go to network settings then

select custom
select wired / wireless
select IP address

etc etc then you will get to DNS settings then select "manual" then enter the primary and secondary DNS

its hard to help you like this I like to be in front of my setup then talk you through it

Settings > Network Settings > Internet Connection Settings > Custom

Go through your settings until you reach DNS settings and choose 'Manual'

Thanks Viking. Got your PM too.

I googled last night and some of the solutions reflected as changing DMZ settings so I tried it.

So I will try to change the DNS on the PS3 to what pshycho suggested, primary DNS to 8.8.8.8 and secondary DNS to 8.8.4.4.

Anything I have to change on the router?

Did you experience any lag with your iburst?

Sorry don't mean to hijack your thread.

No worries. At least I can also help someone. iBurst so-so. Sometimes laggy as hell...other times fine.
I am assuming you're either looking into getting it, or already have it.

If you;re looking into getting it, just do your homework. They are way too expensive for what they offer in today's market IMO.

I would suggest "resetting" the router and starting from scratch

Those routers are normally plug and play but if you tweaked something wrong it will never solve the problem sometimes it needs a nice reset to make it work

you only need to adjust DNS leave uPnP as disabled DHCP settings as disabled I find DNS settings normally fixes things up

Thanks a million man! Will give it a shot.

About to head home and will report back.

What is your NAT status? It could be that you are running NAT3 and that some of your ports are not open. You should try to get NAT2 or 1, alternatively if you do want to go NAT3 then put your PS3 in the DMZ.

If you want more info on connecting to the Internet, have a look at this guide I wrote. Some of the general principles may apply in your case.
