What PC specs is the minimum that can compare to the ps3. whats to make sure if it will be worth getting the ps3 with bundle for R4299 at kalahari.net

Im sorry?! What! You can not compare a R5000 PC with a PS3. A PS3 cant run anything other than ps3 games. If you want to buy a pc on which you can game properly you are looking minimum 9k. But then you have to weigh the price of PS3 great and games with that of a PC.

All in all i think you should decide what to do you want. You going to be mostly gaming then go for the PS3. If your going to be other stuff also then go for the PC.

*sigh* please include the price of a Full HD TV and surround sound system when quoting the price of a PS3/XBOX360 because everyone always used the single cost of the console to compare against the cost of a complete PC, always casually forgetting the REQUIREMENT for a HD Television and Surround Sound System

And a PC cant run PS3 or X360 games.

Why not just get both :)

Perhaps there's a budget to consider?

Or you could just use a normal tv, and surround sound isn't a requirement either. But for comparison, I have a 22" LCD that I paid R3000 for (although the price for a similar screen is now about R1700), as well as surround sound I paid R1700 for.

so R4299 PS3 + R1700 screen + R1700 surround sound = R7699

Perhaps you can go the PC upgrade path and get a gaming PC cheaper than that, and be able to play startcraft 2 etc, but then, you don't get to play Uncharted 2 etc on it. So decide on what games you prefer.

what i meant is what pc specs performance wise.

Just the console vs pc box cause I already got a nice full HD screen. no budget just the hardware specs will get my own prices on the hardware.

Don't forget to factor in the games..
10 games would make the PS3 about R2000 - R3000 more exensive

There you go... a R9000 gaming rig

I speak under correction here but if you have the money, you can make a pc gaming rig that is much more powerful than a ps3/xbox.

There are pros and cons to both sides. I have both and choose which titles i play on which platfrom.

For example, i played Batman AA on full specs on pc and play Fifa 2010 on my PS3.

Having a console does open you up to another side of gaming which a pc can't offer.

Not really a valid argument since most people already have a TV to plug the console into. A PC, on the other hand, requires a separate monitor: it's not like you're going to just hook it up to the screen in your lounge. Also, a normal TV's sound can suffice for gaming whereas a PC needs dedicated speakers.

Besides, even if you do fork out for big-ass gaming screen you can still use it as a standard lounge TV.

Why not? I can. Using your argument you can also say that most people already have a computer, and therefore only need to upgrade it.

How many PC gamers do you know that use their PC exclusively through their lounge TV?

If you add R500 odd for a Logitech PS3 keyboard, you can web browse, mail and IM from your PS3 pretty comfortably. It will play any video or audio you can contrive to throw at it as well.

It however won't burn you CD's or run office productivty software.
Unless you get a older PS3 Fat and install Linux on it. Then it can do at least half of that too. :P

Teach her how to play games then :D

lol! the thread is about PS3 vs PC... not Wii :D

between the 2 the specs on the PS3 are insane , but as a PC gamer i think the ability to improve / upgrade is great plus the price of games PC your looking at new titles around R300
PS3 around R550
Long run it adds up , plus as mentioned you need a HD screen else you rather get a PS2 on a CRT cause the PS3 can be made to work on CRT but looks Crap.

A decent Pc rig should cost you around R7500.00
9 K if you want more
I just built a machine for around R5000 recently ( I already had my LCD thats +R2000)

so yeah ....

so you guys think a ps3 is worth it. I don't mind what games I play

Hell yes it's worth it!!! I bought mine about 3 months ago and haven't looked back since. ATM there is Uncharted 2, Demon's Souls, Resistance 2, Killzone 2 and a whole lot of other exclusive games that are really good. Also, next year we'll be getting Heavy Rain and God of War III amongst others. :D
