ps3 vs pc specs

Im sorry but this thread = FAIL

comparing a console with limited ram and a crippled down 7800 gtx graphics card to a current pc that features a dx10 or even dx11 gfx card if the owner is luck is simply .......... I left that word out for parental guidance purposes. oh and those ps3 specs are reference specs (ie. what the dev believe the console is capable of and not what the real output of the console is)

Honestly I used to be a PC gamer through and through. Then I got a PS2 and that changed the entire way I looked at gaming.

While I still absolutely love my PC, I find there are so few PC exclusive that are great amazing games compared to say all the awesome exclusives that come on console.

Best option - Get a PC AND a console >_<

so you guys think a ps3 is worth it. I don't mind what games I play

Definitely. I bought mine just over a year ago and have already bought 50 games for it. I only didn't like one of those games, Blacksite: Area 51

The only 2 games I'm looking forward to on PC are Starcraft 2 and Diablo 3, and I'm considering getting a Mac for those games :)

to get a pc and console is farking expensive. I already got GTX280, Q9450 overclocked to 3.2GHz, 4GB RAM, enough HDD space, and Z-5500 speakers.

How do you guys think the prices will be in like 4 months? only then I can afford a ps3

A pc = more work at the end of the day. installing OS.. installing games, windows crashing all the time, networking issues.. and the list goes on. A consol you pop in a game and your ready to roll. :)
Consols make life easier.. you spend more time gaming and less time trouble shooting!

Thats also why I moved away from windows to mac! pcs are way way to much work if you want to keep them at the optimal performance.

Errr...no even me being more of a console gamer it's not that much work at all really but ja.Besides thats what makes PC's so interesting.Setting it up the way YOU like it..TBH I have not had a networking issue or any issues whatsoever for quite a few months really and if I do it's not really a issue cause it's what I do for a living.Only using my PC nowadays for music and watching videos :/

i used to be a pc techy b4 i got into graphics... i really don't miss it at all. I've had enough windows issues to last me a life time. when i get time to play games, its just gaming and nothing else. But thats a personal preference. I have a ps3, but i think an xbox is just as good

I was thinking you were talking a decent conversation, untill you said : "I moved away from windows to mac"

Now, I know you're just crazy.

Strangely enough, this "pc is more work" might stand, but a PC can do a whole lot more. I can set up proxies, gateways and servers at home. I can mess with 3D, I can download and use FREE mods for games. I managed to control my digital train set using a spare PC (only connects to those Com2 Ports which my new pc doesnt have...). Call me super geeky but I want to write an application that lets me control the train from the web, throw in a web cam.. Hey, maybe even get extreme and throw in some GPS mapping online!

Cellphone controlled GPS enabled digital train with web cam... extremely geeky, yes. Or, sit on the couch pressing X many many times?

Depends on what you are interested in.

I just just love my mac pro.. it also runs windows in parallels(VM ware) just incase i need to run the occasional windows app! have years worth of 3d studio max work that i need to get into from time to time.
I use my computer to render 3D, and its just so so so much faster! I'm running a dual quad core and my render times are cut in half, and that can save me 2 hours every day... so my mac wins hands down.

And if i really wanna install windows properly i can still install in on a separate drive and just boot directly into windows.... but why would i do that?

P.S. I used to also think like you.. only once u been using a mac for a few months can you honestly say which is better windows or mac.

We share the same view :).

You can't really compare the PS3 to a PC spec-for-spec, but if you were to...

The PS3 has the Cell (1 PPE + 8 SPEs (1 disabled, 1 dedicated to Hypervisor), all @ 3.2GHz). While it's not much of a multi-purpose processor (for desktop usage), it's amazing for certain tasks. If you want something to "match" the PS3's Cell, you need a CPU that's great at parallel processing, but mediocre at other things. An entry-level Core i7 should blow the Cell away on the desktop.

The PS3 also has 256MB XDR RAM (Rambus). This is clocked at 3200MHz. What's better than this? 4GB of DDR3 :p

The PS3 has the RSX, an admittedly shameful GPU based on an old nVidia. Most modern graphics cards should annihilate it.

The big one is the PS3's Bluray drive. It may not be able to write DVDs and CDs, but it IS able to read Bluray discs. One of those for your PC would set you back a fair amount. Think R1000 - R1500.

By now you get my drift: you can't compare the two in terms of specs.

If you want a simple no-nonsense gaming platform, get a PS3. If you want a versatile gaming machine that can play games at the same level as on a PS3, buy yourself a mid-range gaming machine (Core 2 Quad, 4GB RAM, 4890), and a PS3 Dualshock3 controller :)

Like I said. I already got a moerse pc at home. Now thinking about getting a PS3. The soundcard on the ps3 is also very good (DTS, THX, etc) will go good with my Z-550. But what do you all think. still worth the R4299

Imo a ps3 now will be a great purchase. So far regarding exclusives the ps3 looks like the better choice atm for upcoming games. You also dont have to worry about RROD haha

Well check here, console games that are very good, u cant play on pc. Like uncharted 2, Metal gear solid 4, resident evil took a while to come onto pc but it came to console first. Lost planet 2 is also gonna be awesome as well as army of 2 the 40th day. If you really like to co op with your friends but dont want to lug a pc around, ps3 is awesome for that. I would say only get a pc if u are going to be doing competitive gaming, but if u want games that are fun and awesome, the games that are released for ps3 are much better in terms of gameplay, story line ect. although some titles are also released for pc, but most of the titles that are awesome dont come to pc unfortunately... The sixaxis controllers are awesome on a ps3. As well as always new technology comming onto ps3, couple of months time they gonna bring out new motion controllers just to add awesomeness to gameplay.

Don't know if it was mentioned yet - a PS3 doesn't run Windows!!! So a def win in my books!

and it makes a cool media centre - even my 4 yr old knows how to get to her movies on the hdd!
