PS3 WiFi performance and stability

I have a PS3 and I'm connected the internet through my WiFi. I'm using Afrihost as my ISP and running a 4mb line. I have an uncapped account with Afrihost.

What I want to know is the following:
  • Is there any way to minimize the disconnects I get? I get disconnected from PSN intermittently and that is irritating. I will be playing a game and then get the "you've been disconnected from PSN" message.
  • Are there any specific DNS setting I can use to get the connection to the internet more stable?
  • Will the above issues be sorted out by running a cable directly from my router to the PS3?

Yeah, A few questions but these are issues I think many are struggling with.

It might have been answered in previous posts so I apologize if I'm duplicating a request.

I would suggest connecting via cable. You will save youself a lot of trouble when it comes to downloading games. Game installation files have a tendency to become corrupted when connection is unstable of PS3 looses power.

I'm disconnected from PSN the same. I don't play online yet, so it's not a problem yet.

I'm using the PS3's wifi and seems to be working fine for me. Had one corrupted file and that was an update for Injustice about a month ago. On the Vita it's another story though, with updates frequently failing over wifi.

I better router might help, but I've given up on Wifi for my consoles, I was also getting disconnects from PSN and XBL, but I also stream video to the consoles from the PC, and wifi just doesn't handle it. I finally got round to climbing into the ceiling with a bunch of Cat 5e, and now everything is working 100% again.

I switched my PS3 to cable recently, the Wifi was working fine but my router's wifi has started to drop internet connection every now and then.

My PS3 has been connected via Wifi for months now without issues. I actually tested with a cable as well, but Wifi seems to give me faster downloads. I have PSN plus as well so I do quite a lot of downloading om the PS3 and I haven't had any corrupt files yet. Also have 4MB uncapped with Afrihost. I used to have a lot of disconnects and corrupt downloads when I was still using iBurst.

The way I see it these days, Wifi is fine for browsing and stuff, but if you want a decent connection for gaming or media streaming, cable is the way to go.

Also, the wifi connection is shared between every device connected to it, so all your phones, laptops, tablets, etc on your wifi at any one time are killing the connection to the ps3

I had similar issues with disconnects, changing to a brand new router that was not 4 years old helped a great deal.

But for responsiveness and reliability just get a cable dude.

The PS3 Phat and the Slim had major issues with the Wi-Fi and certain routers and wired was the best way in the past. The Super Slim is way better for WiFi, although it's still affected by router brand. I'm moving to D-Link from my Netgear, should be much better.

I haven't ever really experienced any issues with my PS3 over WiFi. I download and play online, no problems whatsoever. Using 8ta 3G nogals too.

Wow. I must say that I haven't had much issues lately (past 3 weeks) but I see that cable will stabilise the connection and take full advantage of the line speed as WiFi could be a bottleneck regarding this.

Yis like a double whammy, wifi and 3g lol. I dont think I could ever play online using 3G. It would just piss me off.

Yeah, I never used to play online, because I was lead to believe that it will be useless. Turns out it is amazing, I have never once had an issue while playing with my friends. Perhaps the coverage is just really good here where I live.
