PS4 - Doing Nothing, Meaning Everything

Sony created a magic moment this past week at E3, declaring for the world that PS4 would not restrict used games or utilize DRM. Power to the people!

Of course, it can be said Sony didn't actually do anything, yet is being lauded as a hero. Does the PlayStation 4 deserve special kudos for maintaining the status quo? Jimquisition thinks so ... kind of. In this case, doing nothing means everything.

PS4 - Doing Nothing, Meaning Everything

Kinda depressing how Sony is essentially sitting on the fence and we are praising them on great posture. I like this video by Jim because it does bring the PS4 back to ground but also shows that the Xbone is 6 feet under. Like he said Microsoft has declared war on gamers while Sony is going Swiss on us. Maybe going Swiss isn't such a bad thing as it gives indie developers a chance to share in the spoils and allows gamers to feel valued in comparison to all the shit that has landed on our plate (after all we, the legitimate gamers, are being blamed for the industries failures).

I enjoy Jim's stuff and this video is spot on.

Now Sony just needs to do one more thing to hook me completely - develop and support their own keyboard/mouse control combo for the PS4!

If they get that right then the war is over :) but I would still stick to my PC.

Still get that right and they will open a lot of doors for themselves

but this is a smoke screen!

The ability to still block the games and DRM is built in the system, all they doin is shifting the responsibility to the devs

Please explain the PS4's DRM policy and games restrictions, I have yet to see that article

Nope, I would actually start playing more on the PS. Since the loading screens shouldn't be as long as on PS3 and there are lots of great exclusives, I'd probably start using it more. I'll reserve my pc for the Steam specials and my current backlog which should take me a lifetime to work through. :)

Steam specials have been the biggest cash sink ever... I fear xmas time

So basically the PS4 will have the feature to put restrictions on used games but will leave it up to the developers whether to implement it. So Sony originally was goin to do it as well, but after seeing the response MS got the decided to do this. So thats why im saying that Sony are just as much to blame here, if they really are against it then pull it from the system.

I think what will happen here is the same thing currently happening. You will be able to play offline single player but if you want to play multiplayer online, you'll need to buy a pass.
Since SOny doesn't force online, there is no way that the developers will be able to restrict you from playing the single player
