This was a highlighted topic a few months back. Sony (or Ster Kinekor) say it's to keep inline with the rand/dollar exchange rate (or the regional equivalent) or some malarki. You can still get at reasonable prices from online retailers. ie. EvoPoints, PrepaidGamer etc

darn, i was not really following that thread as it didn't impact me at the time :( cheapest i could find it is still over 6 hundred bucks. where do you normally get your card from ?

what about if i create a new US account? can't i then simply donwload games with a cheaper US PLUS account, and play on my SA account ?

You could do that. Then chances are you might end up buying something that isn't available in this region. Afaik games are available to all users on one console but save games are different. I can't be a hundered percent certain as I've never had a need for this, I'm the only user.


*I normally just buy 3 months at a time as that's what I can afford.

Still a few places selling their old stock at R499. Saw some at CNA last week going for that price. Quite sure Incredible Connections is also still at sub R500. Can also get from Kalahari and use one of those R100 off vouchers floating around if you want (clicky here).

You can set up a US and SA account on your console.
All you need to do is set them both as primary. Then you can play games bought with the US account on your SA one.

I see you've been playing it a lot hehe. For some reason mine is lagging a bit lately. Still playable but stutters every few seconds. Bit crazy this side the next few days, but sure we can squeeze in a Garden Ops session sometime. Got a third player as well and would like to get the "Complete Garden Ops on Crazy" trophy out of the way.
 
I see the PS4 Remote Play app has finally come to the Sony Z2, but when searching for the PS4 it does so via internet?

My PS TV did that as well first, but is/can connect to the PS4 via my wifi setup. Had to link them via a code though after it failed finding it over the internet. After linking though, now when I select PS4 link on the menu, it connects quick every time.
 
I have to say I don't think I'll ever buy a new title for the PS4.
The game prices are utterly insane...

That's why I'll stick to console exclusives, or games that play better on a console/large TV combo (like most fighters, racere, platformers and adventure games).
 
I have to say I was also not keen on paying R900 for game, but to date I have only paid that for 2 games that I just couldn't resist. All my other games, about 6 or 7 I bought off the ps store for awesome prices! I'm actually done with buying hard copy games anymore. Ps store deals are really good. You won't find those prices in any major store.

I actually came past to ask about the deal on need for speed rivals: complete edition. It's going for R386 for ps plus members, is it worth it? Decent game?

tell me, when you guys are done playing a game, do you explicitly hit the "CLOSE APPLICATION" option?

or do you just start doing something else or just shut down console?

and do u power down, or leave in REST MODE?

if its in REST MODE, does the game still stay alive in background ?

For that price and the complete bundle, I would say so. It's a fairly enjoyable game, kept me busy for a few hours, then traded it in. Though I paid premium price for it.

I've made a note to always close application once done with it. And I normally always shutdown the console, unless I want to download something or charge a controller.
Then again, I have a Sony TV as well, so the TV remote switched the PS4 on/off as well and able to control the PS4 via remote as well. So when switching off the TV this automatically puts the PS4 into rest mode.

I do not trust the Rest Mode of the PS4. I close an application, eject the disc if I need to and then shut down with the controller. I also charge my controllers with my old cell phone charger (which is faster for me). After shut down I unplug the console until the next time I use it. I am very careful with my console seeing as my PS4 is prone to doing the auto eject glitch, something I hope I have fixed with the last bunch of tweaks.

You can still have power through the USB after switching it off, AFAIK there is an option under power management.

I was under the impression the USB is only powered when on or in rest mode. The settings iirc are all based upon rest mode. Every time I have a controller plugged in and the console is in the off state, they don't charge (or at least the light bar isn't on).
*though I could be mistaken, this is known to happen :p

Thanks bud. I might grab it, that or Lords of the fallen.

I only use rest mode if I am downloading games, but I find the console sometimes doesn't come out of rest mode which is a bit annoying.
