PS4 - Game Questions

I checked the online store last night, and yep, R899. I'll pass then thanks. Sure I'll be able to get a physical copy cheaper sometime. My backlog as it is will keep my busy enough.

Its so bullshit that the online digital games are more expensive that the shops... Surely they need to rethink this? I mean why would anyone pay R200 more when they can get the disc and everything, and possibly then resell the game???

Yeah you'd think with the costs saved from not printing discs etc digital versions would be substantially cheaper, but nope. I fear the all digital gaming era.

Its so stupid! There is no product! No printing! No distribution! And we have to pay for the Data to download them!

Yep. I think they're worried if they lower digital prices they'll have set a standard, and come the eventual day of discless consoles they'll get a lot of flack if they tried raising them. So as it looks now, they'll essentially be doubling their profits when discs fall away and they cut the costs involved with that. It's all about the moniez.

Think an article about this was done earlier and it basically came down to SK not wanting to destroy the physical media distribution channel. Silly if you ask me, but yeah. Maybe make both the same, then give you the option of where you want to buy.

Look i can understand them not wanting to crush a thriving industry, i mean in SA alone BT games has grown considerably over the last few years, But in my opinion, if you have the facilities, and the hard drive space, it should be up to the consumer how we get our content, and it should be at (cant believe im about to say this) the same price. That way discs will still sell, and developers still get the money... and no one gets ripped off...

I basically just buy games now on special or with a voucher. Sometimes the PS store has nice specials. Also got a US account for specials that side, and thinking of adding a Japanese account. Games I buy from there is still playable on my SA account.

I've also got a US PSN account, created for the purpose of Netflix. But that's a great idea and I never considered that. Also didn't think of creating a JPN account.

Was how I got mine as well, for Netflix/Hulu. But their specials do seem like specials. Our store, not so much.

AFIAK Be warned the JPN store is strictly in Japanese, so are the games.

Google translate ftw \0/

Also, I don't mind games in Japanese as long as they have English subtitles.

I wish the Store was in Romanji (Japanese in the English alphabet) but it's all Kanji. It would be easier to translate, unless you do your shopping on your PC, which would be a little easier.

For example The PSN store on the PS4 will display: 店は日本語である instead of: Mise wa nihongodearu

Also will have to do a bit of research to see if the games support subtitles or not. I have tried with a PS3 and most Japanese exclusive launch titles do not support english subs, hence why the popular ones are ported over to English.

I am not trying to be a wet blanket, just wanted to lay it out to you before you venture into the unknown.

I must check the US account then, can you link to paypal ?

Sad about the Jap store :( I'll need to hire a translator, or learn the language)...

Here's some info for those wanting a JPN account.

And for finding games, the video may be out of date already, but if you can learn to recognize the kanji of the categories he goes into, you can find it when the store changes things up again.

It's pretty simple to fund your US PSN account. Just buy vouchers from Amazon US and load them on your account.

You can't use a SA credit card or SA paypal account on the US PS Store.

That is all well, but all the games are in Japanese, that means menu's voices and all text are going to be in Japanese. This is my many US/EU titles are delayed in Japan due to localising of languages or editing of text into Kanji. Unless you are fluent in reading and understanding you will have a though time playing almost all of the games.

As for subtitle support, there is very little to no support for subs other than Japanese.

There's lots of demos and such that people are into. I've actually got 3 demos queued that I haven't finished downloading yet (saving bandwidth and all). I'll try and get them over the weekend and let you know if they're playable.

Awesome, give it a try and let me know. AFAIK if it's a massive title Like BF4 or Killzone it can be changed but I am looking to get the JPN PSN exclusive games like DRRR!! for the Vita and Ryū ga Gotoku Ishin! for PS4.
