PS4 HACKS & Tricks

MalicE

Party time! Excellent!
Found this quite by accident on the youtubes. I didn't know quite a few of these...

Any hacks and tricks you know of that isn't covered in this list?

Pretty standard stuff here :p

One of the best things iv found is logging onto the PSN on my PC at work and then throw games and dlc etc onto the PS4 at home to download...

One thing which sucks about Console gaming is not being able to cheat.

One does not always play a game to beat it, but for fun. Sometimes it takes too long and life's too short. With some PC games, especially old ones, you could hex edit save files or use console "giveallammo" commands but with consoles this is not possible unless a cheat code is formally introduced by the company. Tecmo did something like that with DOA5 allowing all costume unlocks.

Space_Chief Iv found that when ever i have been able to use in game cheats, and have, its completely ruined the game for me... Like games like Warcraft and age of empires became completely boring when you didn't at least have the possibility of losing... Im really glad cheat codes are a "thing of the past" as much as they are, because i honestly believe they lessened the game experience...

Hi Tom,

That can certainly be true in some cases but not in all. People play games for different reasons. Some play to just have fun shooting up zombies, others play to enjoy a cute girl kick a-ss, some play for the challenge, others don't care for such challenges but enjoy the experience. It's probably the same as TV/films with type A and type B fans, namely people who focus on the story vs people who focus on the characters. I find myself sometimes being a type A fan or a type B fan. Sometimes I enjoy a show because the story intrigues me. However also often enough the story is secondary and I enjoy seeing the characters interact with others. The same in gaming.

Now in your case, if you're really interested in beating the arbitrarily set game AI, it's all good. Then don't use the cheat code. For those who paid their R600-R1400 for the game and either don't have time or are just not as good as you, why should they struggle? People do derive enjoyment differently. Let's not all decide how someone should enjoy something.

In cases where you purchase a game which requires you to beat certain levels or achieve certain criteria to unlock extras it seems that it's unfair for people who are maybe just less agile or have less time. After all one paid for the game, why should one prove anything beyond that? In fact it should be illegal not to have all content unlocks. If I had the time and money for this I'd be pressing the European Commission to force companies to allow that or be forced to exit the European Union market. If your game is just too difficult and does not allow all unlocks for already paid for content and you don't provide an unlock, you either refund the game, or you're not allowed to do business in one of the largest markets in the world. Why should someone's innate abilities limit them, it's discriminatory.

The only place where cheats should not be allowed is in competitive or multiplayer gaming. I agree there it would be unfair. But for single player especially without any global leader boards (and heck these get hacked often enough anyway) cheating should be an option, always. God modes, or full ammo and certainly "unlocks" should be available, in the worst case scenario as paid for DLC.

I dont know that i can agree with you here... I get what you saying about people being able to get the full experience of a game they have paid for, but cheats is the wrong way to achieve this...

I recently finished The Last of Us, on PS4, the game was by no means easy, and as someone who works a full time job, i dont habe nearly as much time as i would like to play games. It probably took me around 6 months to get through the game...

Now if i could have just turned on "God mode" and just ran through the game it would completely have destroyed the game... the whole story is built on the suspense created by the game play. The whole idea of creeping up on bad guys or the infected, and them seeing you at the last second is what makes the game.

Now everytime i start any game, the default dificulty on the game is normal. And this is where i think you should consider whats the better option... simply changing the difficulty to easy, or using cheats to make the game "quicker"?

Throughout the last of us i was constantly asked by the game of i want to lower the difficulty, i chose not to because i enjoyed the challenge... but the option was there...

Well said. I totally agree, cheats should be available in all games for those who choose to use them. I almost always download a trainer if I'm playing something on PC.

I also get the point that cheating can ruin the experience, but when I cheat (use a trainer) I do it to make the experience more fun for me. E.g. I've played Borderlands 2 for close to 400 hours so when I feel like playing it again with a new character I usually put on god mode and one hit kill to rush through the first playthrough so I can get to the (more challenging and better) second playthrough. I will also put on god mode and no police if I just wanna mess around in GTA without having to worry about dying etc.

Cheats or multiple continues maybe. Sometimes that does not help. I've recently had to struggle with Danganronpa: Ultra Despair, where in one scene there is an ally and you have to snipe approaching robots from a distance which will otherwise kill your ally and then it's game over with an option to restart the section. The clumsy controls on the Vita make targeting in this game very difficult. I'm sure frustration is not part of game play unless it's part of the whole 'despair' thing. At the end after about 20 retries I managed to just barely kill the enemies and the game continued. I was barely able to pull this off. And that was in EASY mode, supposedly the mode designed to let casual players - I'm hardly a casual player - enjoy the story. At this time the game should have offered an option to continue anyway maybe with a rating penalty. The game rates each chapter at the end. In the iOS games from Cave, bullet hell shooters, Cave gives you extra lives for every 3 retries. This stacks up and remains with you.

Cheating of course is hardly necessary but then the game's QA has to be good. They should make sure that the most clumsy, newb will be able to beat the game on the EASY setting. If one wants a challenger, there is a NORMAL and a DESPAIR setting too. Some games have 5 difficulty settings even above EASY. But EASY should be EASY for the casual player.

Now if i could have just turned on "God mode" and just ran through the game it would completely have destroyed the game... the whole story is built on the suspense created by the game play. True. But you are more of a type A fan. Someone who is more interested in the characters and wants to know what happens is hardly interested too much in that beyond the basics. Such a person, who also paid the full amount of money for all the content, should be able to see all the content. Maybe they will miss out on the fear factor, but maybe they don't really care about it so much. In my case above, I am hardly in the mood to fight clumsy weapon controller design. The character moves slowly, is not able to strafe, ammo changes are clumsy especially as you have to press two D pad buttons at the same time to get the one type of ammo and then switch to a normal killing type ammo. It's just a PITA.

In my case lowering difficulty did nothing. But as you can see you had the choice to enjoy this survival game to the full according to your own abilities and autonomy. And it's possible that even on EASY some people will not be able to clear the game. I guess they could watch a Youtube play through movie I guess, but then why bother buying the game in the first place.
