PS4 or PC?

First off, I was a PC gamer up until '09 when Uncharted 2 came out, I just had to have that game. Ever since '09 thought my PC gaming suf4fered until around 3yrs ago when it just died a horrible death and became a console exclusive gamer.

With the launch of next gen though I've come full circle and PC gaming is looking really great to me again, what has really made me finally ask this question is FF14 ARR. Simply love this game :D.

So here I am, stuck :(...

Why did I make the switch to PS3 in the first place? It was their first party exclusives that got me to bite. I only really game on console for the exclusives which led to me staying. No one can say that they haven't wished that they could have played The Last of Us.

Now PC gaming is really making a strong come back with me because I have a new found love of MMO's. After having played FF14 for a few months it has really made me lus to invest in a kick ass PC to play all the MMO's I want (:p) without being limited to a few mins on my now ancient 5yr old hunk o' junk. There are other reasons like getting back onto Steam, playing Skyrim with mods (:D) and getting back into strategy games.

I'm hesitant to leave consoles for now though because I have made quite a few very good mates online over the years on PSN. Most of them are sticking to PS3 for now as the PS4 is too expensive for them atm, so I'd be able to jam with them for a year at least. There's also Uncharted 4 (Been teased) and other first party titles along with Destiny. Man Destiny is looking sexy as all hell.

I'll def grab a PS4 at some stage, but I'm looking for a main platform to game on. If I got PC now I'd probably get a PS4 end of next year or somethig...

So now I dunno...
Any advice?

No "PC master race" comments please :p

I moved over to PS3 2010 from PC basically because my PC was too old to just do a quick upgrade. It was cheaper for me to go PS3 and let my PC die a quiet and honorable death. :)

I have never looked back and also have loads of PS friends but with next gen being this pricey and also the games looking to not be the same price as current gen titles, I am looking seriously at PC again.

I can get a decent PC for round R8000 (no screen as I have one) and I can also do my music recording on it as well. Also, I cannot see myself buying into the first version of the next gen consoles as they have issues that I first want to make sure is ironed out before I get one and that usually happens with the 2nd version release (a la slim version of the current gen).

There are still a boat load of PS+ games I need to complete and also some others like Skyrim that I am busy with so I will be using my PS3 for some time to come.

My advice is to wait it out, don't be hasty with your decision and make sure you get a system that suits your needs. I will still like to go with a system my friends are using for obvious reasons but that will not be my one and only reason. Enjoy your PS3 and keep an eye on the news. There might just be a super sweet deal that you just can't refuse. :)

^^ good point. If you only do gaming, you should look at the line-ups to help you decide.
For myself, I'm sticking with PC because I do other stuff on it besides game.

In terms of game pricing, PC digital downloads are much more affordable than digital/hard copy console games.
However, you won't get those exclusive titles used to drag customers to specific platform.

Social wise, online profiles and communities are abundant.
Steam itself has thousands of groups. Raptr is also a good way to track like-minded gamers.

I have a capable PC, and I am shifting over to the PS4, as my needs have changed, I don't have time to play games as much anymore and can't really afford an upgrade so the PS4 for me is the next best thing. You will hardly ever beat PC with digital pricing and steam, but with PS+ you get free games.

TL;DR
Want to have a system build for many things including gaming, get a PC.
Want to have a system just for gaming and media, get a PS4.

***EDIT
it's a somewhat weak argument, I'm tired and lazy. You won't be disappointed no matter what you get. Also PS4 has some nice exclusives, so does PC.

Easy:

All depends on what you want to do eg.:

A) Just game and keep it simple then get PS4.
B) Just game, but with MMO and perhaps FPS get a PC.
C) B with design, work and other PC.
D) steambox ? :D

Peasants should stick to consoles.:p /runs

More seriously...it depends on what you expect to get out of it. If you just want to crash on a couch & game after a long days work then console. If that barely perceptible microstutter is bothering you to the point of spending hours investigating then PC is for you. They both have very real merit - PCs have the edge on raw technical superiority & variable cost while consoles have convenience, initial fixed cost and maybe social. Both valid choices. People get mocked for mixing & matching that list. e.g. Claiming that consoles match PC technically (lol) or that PC is as convenient as a console (lol...read link above).

Personally...I'd hold my breath for now. The steam box has a very real shot at bridging that gap between the two. I'd wait if you can.

As a side note...bit of a kak time to be buying gear anyway. The exchange rate blows. Whether it'll recover...who knows...but its definitely on the bad side compared to what it was.

Well i'll go the PC route just because of the insane pricing on the next gen titles and consoles, but like a few people here said look at what you want to do with it and how you are going to utilize it.

Also i think with this mad pricing a lot of people are going to be pushed back to PC gaming :p (and they said pc gaming was dying out)

i'm also looking at a PS4 but starting to consider the xbox one because of forza 5 and my current PC can play BF4 at ultra so i'm still happy with it. i have a xbox 360 so i can still do that as well and my kids enjoy the Kinect. i love having a pc because space wise(storage) its jsut good at keeping the huge amount of music and games i have and a whole bunch of other things.

Thanks for the reply guys.

When it comes to multitasking and doing things other than gaming, I do that already. I have a laptop and tablet so I'm always able to do things besides gaming even when I am on my couch. So multitasking isn't much of an issue for me, obviously on PC it'd all be compiled onto one machine.

When it comes to pricing I can afford but I obviously wouldn't want to buy both at the same time, that's just a bit too wild.

When it comes to gaming prices, I can afford next gen prices but that is no substitute for being stupid and purchasing games at close on 1k each. So I'd be lying if I said that it wasn't also helping me make this choice. I wanted to make bit more of a digital leap, but now ...

Honestly the idea of a PS4 is highly alluring...until you factor in the variable cost of running it. In the long run; Sans exclusives a PC is the greater option. Games are cheaper and with the right peripherals in can function in the same capacity as a PS4. However you must search your soul for how important exclusives are to you.

Personally I would go PC now and then pick up a PS4 in a year or two when the prices are more reasonable and the games library is actually worth something.

Currently I game on both PC and PS3 and down the road I plan to add PS4 to that list as well.

a console might be cheaper initially, but if you buy games regularly you are going to exceed the cost of a pc very quickly, where console games are on avg R600-R700 pc games are maybe R500 and the prices drop much faster not to mention all the bundles and other specials that happen for pc titles

No one is putting a gun to your head to buy on release. I've gotten about all my console titles a few months later at better pricing, not to forget lending or second hand.

True enough that lending does make things somewhat cheaper; But I have seen that certain 2nd hand titles for console cost roughly as much as the brand new PC counterpart:wtf:

Awesome, so I think I've decided on coming back to PC

I think as of right now PC makes the most sense to me, Uncharted 4 will only land end of next year so yeah, I think I'm really happy with PC going forward :D

Thanks a lot guys for helping me decide, it's really been a touch decision...

And there was much rejoicing as one of our brethren returned to us:p
