PSU Plug Question

Solitude

Mr. Nice Guy
I bought a Coolermaster Silent Pro PSU and it comes with a rather weird looking 2 point plug. The two points are a bit larger than normal 2 point plugs. Can I use this with a normal 2 point plug adapter or should I go to Game or some place and get a specific one?

Also on the back it says 250V and 16A. Should the adapter also show 16A on the back or doesn't it make a difference?

I don't know much about these things.

Did you get the PSU locally? If so maybe you should contact the people you bought it from to make sure?

Yeah that's probably the best bet. Thanks S1ght. Will find out from them tomorrow. It'll probably work right on a normal adapter. I'm just afraid of frying things the first time I switch it on. :)

yeah, that is the power plug going from the wall socket to the power supply, call by some a kettle cable. Ask around, maybe you can pick one up for free. :D

Thanks SharkBait. :) I've got an old "kettle cable" here which I saw on another forum would do the trick.

Its just a regular plug, that one has a fuse built into it, but you can change it to be a regular 3 pin plug, you will probably need to toss the old cable as the CM power supplies come with moulded plugs that just arent worth the effort to cut open, but a regular kettle plug will work fine

oh if its just the kettle plug then it should be fine :) I wasn't sure what you meant by the 250V and 16A thing so thought phoning could be the best option. I dunno why local people don't say anything about these things. I bought a MSI router from Cyberdyne and it came with the American Power adapter. sigh

Haha yeah I didn't know that it was called a kettle cable when I started this thread. I'm just waiting for my mobo to arrive and then I'll start building the pc. So I hope everything works and that the PSU doesn't blow up or anything. :)

You can also get an adapter that turns one of those into a normal three-point plug. I had the same scare you did when I bought an external drive enclosure with one of those plugs, so I picked up the adapter for a few bucks from Pick 'n Pay.

I suppose it's better to keep it rather than rewire to a normal one though as the fuse might provide some measure of protection?

That just sounds weird. Good luck with that.

Wow this is an old thread that has been resurrected from the dead!

I've been using my pc with the powersupply for a while now. The PSU is working perfectly with an old kettle plug of mine. :)

I was referring to the initial post, but yes it is to get my post count up.

Just go out and buy a normal kettle plug with a Red plug and flattened earth pin, that way you will have the right cable for when you go to rage.
