Quantum Break - official thread

Just seen the first pre-release review on GameSpot. It isn't exactly glowing:

Reading this bit
"Sadly, Quantum Break's gameplay is essentially divided equally between combat and hapless environment traversal. Given that the entire campaign can be completed in less than 10 hours--live-action episodes included--the distribution of activities feels that much more disappointing."
makes me especially grateful that I resisted the temptation to drop R1200 on it.

The Giant Bomb review is even more damning. :wtf: Must be pretty disappointing for some people. In general most of the reviews don't actually seem too bad.

Reviews are pretty mixed but from what I've seen it looks like the type of game I'll really enjoy. Remedy has not yet disappointed me. Depending on the PC price however I might wait for a bit of a price drop though as I've just spent 2k on the UC4 CE so my gaming budget for the month is already stretched[emoji14]

Reviews are pretty mixed ...
Very true. Review Roundup via GameSpot shows shows everything from 2/5 to 8.5/10. And (presumably - haven't checked them all) they're all reviews based on XBox versions. PC version code hasn't been released to reviewers yet.

Still haven't seen/can't find any mention of a PC release or price on the Windows Store, despite the scheduled release tomorrow of the PC version "on the same date as the XBox version".

So, did any MyGamer pick it up for the XB1? If you did, please share your thoughts once you've had a look at the game - we need some independent opinion after all the conflicting reviews.

Also this tweet went out a few hours earlier:

Which actually does little to clarify any of the PC version questions. Like why it's not on the Windows Store, why there's no pre-load for PC, what it'll be priced at for PC, and why no PC gameplay had been seen or review has been done.

(CIC Jan can we move this to General Gaming and make it the Official Quantum Break thread perhaps?)

So it's finally listed on the Windows Store - for R1299. Yeah, Microsoft can stuff it. As much as I'd love to play the game there is no way in hell I'd pay so much for a PC game, let alone a digital one. That's more than double to price Rise of the Tomb Raider was.

Yeah, a touch outrageous to pitch it at the same price as the pre-order XB1 bundle that included the Alan Wake games and a copy of the PC version too. And you don't get any extras for that R1299.

Some of the thinking may be a weak effort at appeasing the vocal minority of XBox fans who raged about "...but, but wat 'bout my exclusive that you promised bruh?!" when MS announced the PC version. But still. Can't see many of the PC crowd flocking to pick up a copy at that price - myself included. Even less so if PC performance reviews aren't universally glowing in praise for the port.

I'm so miff about this :(
I really wanted to play it so bad...but R1299 which is around $86 is just too much for a pc game. Totally bummed out now.

Um, wtf. surely this is a mistake? Is it a season pass or something?

Nope that's the price bud.
The only country getting it for the normal $60 price is the US. As far as I know it's 70 Euro in the EU.
They missed a huge section of the gaming public with a price like that.

Is $60 even normal though for a PC game? Even that's like R900. Crazy.

Yeah, the average price of a AAA title nowadays is about $60. But in SA the average price difference between a console game and PC game is normally R100 from what I've noticed.

I saw it on special at loot for R999 or something and had a WTF moment. Cannot believe any one spends that much on a game.

I just finished Quantum Break and I can completely understand why it's getting mixed reviews. There are parts of the game that's absolutely amazing. I also think the whole live video thing works well. The story is excellent and you can see a ton of work has gone into the game.

However it's let down a bit by its combat sections. It's a bit on the boring side and reminds me a lot of Alan Wake's combat which is of course expected from Remedy. I love the Alan Wake games and yet I find Quantum Break a good game but not a great game.

The ending really sets up a sequel and I hope a sequel does come out eventually because if they can fix the combat but keep the excellent writing and setting then they've got a winner.

*edit*

I see the game ratings go from 100 down to 40. Pretty crazy:

How dependant is the game or story on the live video stuff?

A lot! Your choices and things affect the videos and then you get more story. Then the game continues where the videos stop. You don't have to download it however, you can stream it like Netflix when you get to it.

I downloaded them and it was over 70GB!
