Question about Left for Dead

I know this might sound like a stupid question to some of you, but i dont know much about this game. Anyway my question is, does left 4 dead allow four players locally(as in 4 controllers connected) or can it only be done over live?

you can lan but thats done via some arborary method; otherwise its log onto steam and so on.

Speaking of controllers I think you are refering to the console version, I can not help you there.

on the PC 4 players can LAN it without internet connection.

I know you cant play split screen on PC but I really have no clue about the xbox version?
