Question: CoD Map Packs?

Ok so the last Call of Duty game I played was COD4 and I quite enjoyed it but since then I've had little to no interest in the series, but I've been looking at Black Ops 2 and maybe picking it up. My issue is that I'm not interested in paying a 'subscription' fee for the game in the form of $15 every other month for map packs.

So considering specifically the PC version and dedicated servers, how exactly do the map packs work? Do I need to buy them if I want to keep playing or are there generally servers that only play the original maps?

Any info from guys who've experienced the local scene with dedicated servers and map pack dlc would be much appreciated.

Blops II will have dedicated servers and there will def be servers that will not include the DLC maps.
On blops there were quite a few servers that didn't use dlc maps in their map rotation. Quite a few gamers out there that believe dlc map packs are shit and I happen to be one of them.

Kinda random but I can't wait for Blops II the multiplayer looks epic!!

Ok cool, because that was always an issue for me since I had no desire to spend $120 on the game. :)

In Black Ops the first map pack got put into quite a few servers, but the servers only manage to keep people entertained for about 2 weeks before they start fading away and everyone's back to playing the release maps. 2nd map pack is even worse, you might be able to play it a lot during the first week of its release and then never again. It's a shame, because there's always the odd map amongst the DLC's that are really awesome, but you don't get to see much of it. I miss the days of free maps.

The DLC really isn't necessary, much more people will be playing the release maps. Zombies would be awesome, but R100-150 for that? Eish.
