r/patientgamers - For Gamers Behind the Times

I know that a fair few people on the forum are like me and like to pick up their games on sale or in bundles and so we often find ourselves playing a game that released 2-3 years ago now for the first time. It turns out there are many people who do this and there's even a discussion thread on Reddit for those who are only playing a game a few years after its release, long after the hype has died down r/patientgamers

In a way the recent MyGame challenges have been like this, since the games that have been picked are not the latest, and it has been fun experiencing the games "for the first time" together a couple of years after the release.

There are some interesting threads on the subreddit, so have a look and maybe it will inspire you to play some of those older games in your backlog.

Great sub. Some really interesting topics of discussion. It's now part of my sub list.

It's a very interesting phenomenon about human nature, our tendency to always want the newest things and have everything first. It's been the fact that has driven pre-order sales for many many years.

I think some gamers suffer from FOMO as well. I do sometimes especially when a triple-A title is released. I have to see what the hype is about but on the flip-side there are some games I can patiently wait to play.

The added bonus is waiting means a lower price, a more stable product and more often than not free DLC / Goty edition, i'm prob going to do this with Andromeda if I don't bye into the hype train i usual just wait till the price is way down, for PC that normally doesn't take that long

I think my being behind the upgrade curve on PC has helped me to be patient. New is nice but so often the stories goes:
Big Hype! -> Day 1 patches -> Release -> "Best game eva!" -> "Actually it's not that great" -> "I hate this buggy mess" ... a few months ... game gets fixed and STEAM SALE! -> "Best deal eva!" say the patient gamers :D

I think slowly but surely the pre-order culture is dwindling as the sheer amount of new releases and the often necessary patching is making people wait a bit first.

I definitely fall into this category.
I recently bought a wii because I missed out on it completely. i play it almost exclusivley now.
Also found out that it is softmoddable, so I did it and now play gamecube games off an SD card! Its downright amazing.
