Racing Games?

Haha fair enough. In terms of car racing, I've been playing the Need for Speed series :) I also played a snowboard racing MMO called Project Powder (no idea if it's still in service). And just recently, I found a jet ski water racing game called Tropical Heat, which was pretty cool if anyone has heard of it.

Need for speed series is fun but Grid is better in my opinion. I'm very excited for grid 2 which is coming out later this year in may if I'm correct.

I stopped playing Need for Speed when I learned how to play MMO games lol. I've learned something interesting though...of all the racing games I've played, cars have very good control unless you steer them into the grass or sand. The bad thing is that there's much adventure to them cuz you can't do any tricks unless you have a mission to do and you're driving around the city. I played Tropical Heat yesterday, which is basically a game that allows you to race using a jetski....so many tricks you can do and the graphics (and the music) are really great but it's hard to steer it if you're trying to make achievements during the game...but hey, a game isn't fun without a challenge :P

DiRT series
TOCA Race Driver series
GRID
Forza series
NFS Shift
NFS Pro Street

I tend to shy away from games that tend to be more "Arcade racers". Simulation Racers or Semi-Sim racers are what I enjoy.

While I enjoyed Gran Turismo, I find that the "thou shall play GT on a Playstation" approach is also pushing me away a bit. I prefer my racing titles on the XBOX and the PC thanks.

I am more into Sim Racing. R-Factor, Live for Speed etc.
Also Shift and Shift2 with realism mods is also great!

Mostly Gran Turismo 5, but I dabble in the occasional Need for Speed or Codemasters racers like Grid and Dirt.

The F1 series is also a great Sim but it may be far to technical for the casual fan. Saying that I'm a huge F1 fan so I really appreciate the fine points that piss off other gamers.
Saying that I also enjoy arcade racers, it just takes a mind switch from looking at technical racing in sims to swinging wide and having fun with the loose controls in arcade racers.

My only issue is that sims need a wheel to be truly immersive and that's where I fail and a keyboard doesn't cut it.

Anyone here played Mx vs Atv reflex?

Grid and Dirt series. Naught can compare! Codemasters are the masters!

i have to agree, they got the formula right. Enough options and settings to keep the Sim racers occupied and challenged and can be dumbed down enough to keep arcade racers entertained. They also haven't bothered with silly and pointless "achievements".

In my opinion Shift also got the formula right.

A game like GRID offers its own unique racing game style. And the same with the Need for Speed series.

I find it difficult comparing one game to another, unless there are many similarities.

I like simulation-based racers because they offer a very unique style of racing to the gamer. 90% of your wins in games like Forza, Gran Turismo and Race Driver GRID depends on your skill. Whereas; a game like Need for Speed (the semi-arcade version now), only require you to try harder to win on the last laps.

Well lets be honest here, Grid is a Sim/ Arcade hybrid, so let's not compare it to Gran Turismo or Forza.

:D Indeed, but it's more of a sim racer than an arcade racer. Honestly speaking Forza and Gran Turismo are not full sim racers either. They just lean a lot more towards the simulation than the arcade racing perspective.

Real sim racers, like rFactor, SimRaceway and Racer tend to be miles harder and lose all of the arcade feel. Unfortunately racing simulators tend to be so hard and technical that even the best Forza/GT racers feel out of place.

What about racing games that involve mid-air tricks and achievements? :) Haha I played Gran Turismo on my neighbor's Playstation several years ago.....good times.

Hmmm, MX vs ATV (on PC and PS3), most of the NFS series (didn't enjoy all of them though), and I have fond memories of Midnight Club...

Also, racing minigames are often quite a bit of fun :D (Sleeping Dogs is a nice example).

Wrong, if a non racing game has a racing element then its gonna suck and just be frustrating.
