Nearly 90 percent of South Africans over the age of 15 listen to the radio at least once a week, according to the latest Radio Audience Measurement Survey (RAMS).

Over two-thirds of adults, 68.9 percent, listened to the radio daily between Monday and Friday, said the SA Audience Research Foundation (SAARF), which directs and publishes the survey, which was released on Monday.

On weekends, 65.5 percent of adults listened to the radio on a Saturday, and 65.3 percent on a Sunday.
 
I absolutely despise all the local radio stations, especially with all the annoying dj's. I only listen to them because I'm forced to by other people, like at work.

Those basterds think they are soooo funny. Every time I hear someone laugh at their jokes I just want to punch them in the face.

Yeah that's something that gets to me too. Because you live in PTA, you have surely also heard the terribleness of the DJs on stations that actually have good music, like Tuks. But they are students, though, so I can't give them too much crap.

Yeah I prefer Tuks over anything else.

Too bad most of the radio hosts on popular stations behave as if they are under 15. I only listen during the week, not the weekend, and honestly even though I'm English 1st language, I listen to RSG. :)
 
I only listen to the radio in my car so there's the weekdays. However I prefer my own music which is less all those ads. I enjoy tuks fm but lately they seem to be filling up on ad revenue which is annoying, especially that spike energy one.

I know the one. I HATE that ad.
Tuks = good music + terrible DJs + more and more ads.

I have to say that I've tried to listen to the new DJs before. There was one chick who was spewing her religious-cross-pollinated-with-politics view one morning, and it was pretty cringe-worthy.

I miss Rob forbes and Alex Caige, they where good, now we have some idiot saying how fat he is on the morning drive.
 
I listen every day while at work because I have no choice (speakers in the ceiling).
Here in the Freestate your choice of Radio station is pretty limited. I think RSG and the regional equivalent of Jacaranda and 94.7 (OFM) is the most popular stations. OFM is a pretty fun station but not always for the right reasons. Because they cover central parts of the country where there are a lot of small to very small towns, the adverts can be very low budget and entertaining to downright strange. Currently, you will hear ads for a butchery in Kroonstad, a pawn-shop in Bloemfontein, (non-franchise) clothing stores all over the place and much more.
The music selection is also pretty peculiar. I know of no other station where you will hear Steve Hofmeyer follwed by ACDC followed by Robin Thicke.
