rAge 2010 announced

Waste of money imho. I've been twice and other than the mates you go with, there is nothing there that makes it worthwhile. It's expensive. The tickets are getting a lot more each year, the food and drinks in the expo are totally nuts, there is nowhere to shower or clean yourself and people start to klunk towards Sat evening and sleeping inside is a real bitch. So you land up booking a B&B, just for somewhere to crash and shower.

Other than that, if you game online, what's the difference if you playing the same okes in a stink building all together or if you jolling at home in the comfort of your own chair? Also, what games are going to played on a LAN? MW2 and BC2 is out because there is no internet, so how the moer they gonna play those? So it's the classics then? CSS, BF2, COD4? And then obviously the strategy games etc as well.

The reason, I suspect, most people go is for the leeching. The leeching is ok if you do not have uncapped internet or belong to a WUG. Even so, the leeching is dependent on someone bothering to share his goodies. Also, I can not see that amount of leeching of "data" going unnoticed forever by whomever. Sooner or later the LAN organisers are going to be given grief by the anti-leeching police and will thus put a stop to the leeching/DC++ or whatever protocol is used these days.

The expo itself is kak. There is nothing really exciting ever happening there, other than maybe the Xbox 360 launch about 2 or 3 years ago. This year the PS3 move will probably be there as well as the Kinect. Whoopee. The stalls/shops there never have any really great specials or anything making you want to visit their stall. People buy yes, but that's because they get hyped up in the moment, but if you go online on Monday following you will notice that most everything you bought could be gotten for the same price, sometimes even cheaper elsewhere.

Despite all that, if you are a real gaming nut or just younger than 16, I suppose there is a certain amount of appeal, but personally, I'll give it a skip. I might go to the expo for a day if there is something worthwhile, but the LAN has no appeal anymore.

The expo is obviously going to be boring the 3rd time you walk around the dome. You can only look at new hardware that many times till its meh. Underage boothbabes and massive crowds of "interesting" folk also get old real soon... Then you get the people that sit and leech for 72 hours straight. Little pirates who haven't showered the entire entire weekend who smell and look like something out of a 60's horror movie... The same people who complain that "I CANOT DOWNLD FAST ENUF GAIS!!1"

HOWEVER, you guys are forgetting rAge's purpose as a grounds for competitions. An event with massive events and heaps of exposure. Something that gaming in SA enjoys and thrives on. Every Battlefield competition I have played in (past 5 years) has been clinically executed and pulled a community that were previously at war (digitally, physically and verbally) together. I do not know about the other big games, but the CS and CoD4 competitions looked epic last year. The CoD4 comp had about 1000 (hyperbole) teams and was intense to watch, even for a non-CoD-player. The CS comp final had LIVE commentary.... Proper entertainment value.

If you sit in front of your machine the entire weekend, you are missing another key part of the weekend. The good times had outside of the dome make the weekend worth it. Meeting / drinking / laughing / arguing with your nemeses, clanmates, trolls, buddies etc for the first time IN REAL LIFE is something that every gamer should experience. Or you're doing it wrong.

And if you thought that no internet would make a difference, a dedicated section for the BF2142 competition in 2008 had limited internet access, just the right amount that was needed because 2142 needed it to be playable. It can be arranged, and I have no doubt it will be arranged for the games that need internet access (MW2 and BC2).

Really, I would love to discuss how I feel about eternally pessimistic people. But I dislike online flame wars... Instead of ruining the event for individuals and clans before they even get there, at least give them a chance to go and see what its all about.
 
If you guys keep complaining about it and vow to "never go again", how the hell are you expecting the expo to pick up again? Sure, if we all support this expo year after year and the ticket prices continue to climb and the expo STILL carries on going downwards, THEN there is a reason to complain. You're all gamers. This is a South African gaming EXPO. You're supposed to be supporting this event, no matter what!

C'mon guys! Think about it!
 
The best "expo" I ever went to was the 1997/8 Bexxa Computer show Gallagher Estate. Man that was awesome. They reserved the biggest hall for the games, and there were lightshows, Pumping music, Plenty of preview games Like Unreal and Sin, and some uber givaways. I got Quake1, Duke Nukem and Tomb Raider 1 for Free when I bought Blood and Carmageddon + Splat pack :D

I went back about 2 years later and the "games" bit was tucked away in a corner on one single shelf and one guy standing around there reading a wilbur smith book :|

I would support it but they don't even try to make each year special. I was going to rage every year until last year and even in 2008 there was nothing special about it.
 
No, I'm not supporting something for which I feel I'm not getting my moneys worth. Dumb argument. Ok, Next month I'll host an expo from from my garage, have a mini LAN and ask Mappies sister to act as a, um, garagebabe? It's South African so you must support it. Just because it's a local expo and possibly the only one worth mentioning(which is kind of sad), does not mean you now must depart with your cash. To me there is simply no wow factor. Why can E3 be such a massive thing each year? There it's pretty much the same format each year, but it still works. Granted it's the US and exposures etc maker it easier for all the huge names to be there, but I can't help but feel that maybe we could get one? decent drawcard? Or make it more fun or interactive or something. Make it a visual bonanza or a sound explosion or something more than just a couple of PC retailers selling their goods for no cheaper than anywhere else or a Greek food chain selling schwarmas for what felt like a R100, or R50 pizzas the size of a CD. I don't mind paying for quality, but of late it just felt cheap.

Sorry Neo, I've been twice and was never overly impressed with the experience. Yes, maybe it's something you should do at least once in your life, but twice was once too many for me.

This is merely how I felt about rAge and if someone else feels differently, that's fine. Each to his own.
 
Oh the food there is shit,I got a hamburger and it had plastic in it. Took it back and they refused to give me another one.
 
I have no problem with the concept of rAge, but it's how they are implementing it that bugs me. It feels as if no real effort or thought goes into it. Yes the LAN is a large setup and effort to get working, but then have a big ass LAN and lose the expo.

Go big or go home.

im curious about why people say that gamers must support it? does rage cater for the gamers? i have been to rage, there was only 1 halaal store in that place to get something to eat ... the mall over there also didnt have any halaal food places ... they need to sort there shit out! they been hosting rage for a few years now cant they use common sense?
