rAge - Thoughts

rAge was ok....Last year we seen the Kinect for the first time, 3D gaming, PS Move and more. This year tho was less inspiring and less innovating. Besides there wasn't any (rAge) deals on games pre-played games were pre-played prices and new games was new game prices. And Incredible connect only gave R20 off games. I was chuffed with Kalahari they gave vouchers to everyone that came to their stand ranging from R75-R500!!! and this year was too full and most of the stands had built up walls so it was hard finding a particular stands. Hopefully rAge is better next year.

Have to be honest this was my 2nd time to NAG LAN and Expo.

I won't go back again.

NAG LAN:

Was fun and jamming with friends is the biggest reason I went again but Steam kept going on and off on Friday. No Steam = No gaming. So what do you do? With all the anti piracy notices and fyers running around they should get Steam and GFWL to work at NAG LAN or everyone is just going to play Pirated games that they got from DC++

What also grated me with regards to the LAN was that I posted we have an issue and asked VC if they can give us feedback. Still waiting. Oh and authenticating to any EA (and other) servers to start a game was blocked, but people where able to download steam updates? WT?????

Also missed the vibe, this year was lacking. Last year they had people go running etc. just to keep the party alive. By 24:00 most gamers where already sleeping.

Expo:

Boring, Boring Boring,

Think we spent 2 hours there. Was looking forward to see some BF3 but they had the Beta setup! Not like 80% of BF3 players haven't already played the Beta in the week? Why can't we do what over sea's expo's do? Get the Dev's to show more than what we can see on youtube or beta play at home.

And seriously, if I want to see hrdware I will google it and go to the shops. This was more like a PC Shop flea market.

I think rAge should think a bit out of the box and become a proper Expo.

@ Diablo are you serious. Tomb Raider had a dev from Crystal Dynamics showing off code of the game, Hitman Product manager from Square Enix was there. Guild Wars 2 had 2 NC Soft Employees showing off the game never seen before, Ghost Recon had a Dev from the studio, Assassins Creed had a guy from Montreal Studios talking about the Assassins Creed universe and whereit is going. Ghost Recon had a Dev over. Batman had a Dev over from the Rocksteady studios?? Where were u?

Uhmmm, did we go to the same expo O.o? I spent a large part of the day at the expo looking at all the preview code on the stands and asking the guys that came all this way some questions about what they were show casing. Would loved to ask the NC Soft reps some questions but sadly they poofed quite quickly. Was also interesting to attend the SAGD sessions and gave me some insight into SA game development. And the list goes on.

And what Dark said ^. The preview code for most of the hottest releases this year and next were available. I mean hell, Hitman was still in pre-alpha state and that looked awesome (though hit registration where the copter chased agent 47 was real lousy, but it will probs be refined). Tomb Raider also drew my eye, moving away from it's usual paradigm ever so often, and Lara not looking as good as ever.

Scored quite a few good deals on PC parts and games alike and even got a R500 voucher at the Kalahari stand ^_^.

The thing is they have to have some balance between PC parts, gaming, gadgetry (which there was a lack of I must admit) and so forth. And they only have so much floor space to do so. Though it did get crowded I never felt overwhelmed at any stage .-. Though I did come pretty early and did leave closer to the closing time of the expo so no issues getting in and out (Other than accidentally turning a street to early to get there :-P)

But I'm def gonna make a point to go again next year and with a lot more cash ^_^

Kinda boring this year.

The only thing that really impressed me was the Tomb Raider Stage Demo

Lan was boring, people quitting mid games....

Thing that was only impressive was the M&G and me getting R200 off my bf3 pre-order :p

I enjoyed Rage, arrived early to make sure I got to see the Tomb Raider demo and hear about the game from the Crystal Dynamics developer. Yes the BF3 beta may not have been all that impressive since we've been playing it before rAge, but I found the Single player preview code very entertaining that they had running on PS3's and it looked pretty dam good. Otherwise the Hitman exclusive was quite cool.
I spend most of saturday at Rage with my girlfriend checking out all that was on offer. Some really impressive Cosplay costumes at the event. Did anyone check Vash? and the Lara Croft girl at the Kaspersky stand
I heard alot of negative feedback about the NAG LAN, and especially 'some' of the competitions that didn't start on schedule (a day late) and plagued with network issues, internet connectivity and powertrips. Glad I wasn't competing.

The giveaway's were quite entertaining watching people do some rediculous things to win a keyboard or headset. I wouln't have minded a GuildWars 2 shirt or BF3.

For me Arkham City stole the show, the demo on display was from E3 and fairly lengthly, and of course you could venture off and just run around the city beating up assholes.

AC Revelations was also nice to see some new gameplay and hear what they had to say, as well as checking out a Dark Souls boss fight.

Plenty of racing games on display, NFS The Run playable, alot of F1 2011 multi display setups, GT5 and Forza 3's were abundant, right up my ally.

On the whole I enjoyed the event, it was very busy but that is to be expected. I checked out the BlackOps competition finals on the main stage as well, supporting my friends from KK who won the event. gz

An improvement over last year's Rage for sure, also enjoyed meeting all the crazy people from this forum at the M&G. :)

found rAge interesting as always, however i would like more retailers with more rAge only specials, a bigger venue and maybe a bigscreen or 2 showing off some of LAN skills

Rage was ok for me.
Just very busy and very loud!
I was saf that i didnt get to see anything on Diablo 3 though.
But got a few PS3 games at a decent price :)

So, is anyone here going to the CPT thing in December? I will definitely be there, maybe we can have a MyGaming Meet and Greet?
