What's the average amount of ram everyone is running with these day...

I'm sitting with 8GB and still seem to run out every now and then...

MSI Z77A-G45 Mainboard

Intel Core i5 2500 - 3.3GHz Quad Core

8GB DDR3 - 1033MHz Corsair XMS3

nVidia GeForce GTX 550 Ti OC

Sony BD-Writer

A-Open 16x DVD-RW

Aerocool E85 700w power supply

Coolermaster Storm Enforcer chassis

What are you usually doing when you run out?
There is no game on earth that uses 8GB ram constantly, so I am guessing its other software.

Hmm, the usual culprit these days is google chrome... awesome browser, awful memory management... i've switched to firefox and the problem has gone away...

I'm running 4gb which seems to be sufficient, my bottleneck is in my CPU and graphics card :(

on my previous work pc I had 8gb with a Q6200 cpu, running Corel and photoshop and a couple of other things (winamp, etc.) and working on massive files, I'm talking 1gb+ PSD's, and the system never used more than about 44% of it's RAM, so I think I'll stick with my 4gb for a while still ^_^

ive always preferred firefox myself and had many arguments abt FF vs Chrome..dunno about multiple tabs, but i saw a benchmark a week ago that shoed chrome was better in most tests..still gonna use quote u tho:p

I use chrome on a laptop with 2GB of RAM and even with a few extensions I never run into memory issue, so unless you have literally 100's of tabs open I don't see how you can be running into issues with 8GB.

Sounds to me like somethings leaking RAM. Easy solution is to reboot, then play your game. It'll take a while before your RAM gets filled.
Otherwise try to hunt down the culprit - shut down unecessary apps, clean up your start-up items, make sure you have spare disk space, etc. Lots of guides out there on how to run your Windows neat and slim.

6GB DDR3 1333 here, only time I ran out was when an addon for Firefox had a memory leak but since removing the addon there's rarely less than 2GB free, though that seems to come with being up for weeks and a restart puts it back at about 4-5GB free lol.
