Ram Upgrade

Hi

I'm busy upgrading my pc, and the 1st thing I'm going to do is upgrade my ram. Since what i currently have is a bit slow.

I currently have 2 gigs and thinking of getting 4 gigs. Is there any point in getting more for gaming? was think of 8 Gigs, am I correct in thinking this wont make much of a difference?

What Windows you running. As far as I know Win7 is the only Windows that sees more than 4 gigs of RAM. Vista and lower only see up to 3 gigs.

Just remember when going to lager ram more than 4 gig you have to also up grade you operating system from 32 bit to 64 bit.

Yeah got windows 7 64 bit, but wont games still only get allocated 2 gigs at most? or something in those lines? I have an XFX nForce 790i Ultra MB, i think the max i can go on it is 8 gigs.

imho 6gigs is the new 4gigs. going that route with all my rigs else 4g minimum... [*note you must have a 64bit os to use 4 gigs and more]

that's 32x os's sees 3.xxx. any 64 bit os will show 4 or more; even xp 64 ;)

AFAIK, most games are under 32Bit instruction, very few have 64bit startups but the few that run under 64bit correctly are pretty damn good. As for uhn going over 4gb id recommend it, i drop from 8gb to 4gb and i cant do what i use to... When i have the cash going to install 4 more gigs. Anyway dont bother with the 32bit operating system no more as they are become obsolete fast....

well 6g-8g comes into play in my case when i used a lot of things together like adobe cs4 + vs 2008 + sql 2008 + VM or two; then the more the merrier is always better.

however 4g is good spot o have when you go game + os + virus/spy scanners.

Ahhhh, that's what it was. Cool. I was going to go with 6GB tri-channel DDR3 RAM with my new setup so I'll definately have to go 64bit Win7.

6 Gb, no question. Eveything will be smooth sailing with 6Gb.
It's true though, most applications will use Max 2Gb, including games.
There are some exceptions, since there a quite a number of x64 applications, even from big names like Adobe, so IMHO 6 Gb is "optimal" in todays world.

4 gb should be enough for now but who know's in 6 month's down the line they might require 6gb of ram for game's, since game's are developing so fast n require more as they develope. Plus pc component can't keep up with the games released. look at crysis when it launched, graphics card could hardly run it on max.
