Ram Upgrade

What Windows you running. As far as I know Win7 is the only Windows that sees more than 4 gigs of RAM. Vista and lower only see up to 3 gigs.

Any 32bit OS will only see 3GB of RAM. So if you are running 64bit Windows Vista, you can also have more than 3GB.

4GB is a good amount for gaming, though 6GB will give you a bit of an extra edge, though I don't think you will notice much if your video card and processor aren't up to it.

My next system will feature 8GB's. Going big :D

Since this is about upgrading ram.

Can anyone tune me the fastest 2gig and 4gig dual ram modules atm please.
DDR 2 800

what would a good set of Tri-channel ram be to buy for a 6GB config ?

And how many ppl here are running 64bit windows OS (xp or Vista).
I know it was a huge issue just to get drivers going in the beginning of Vista.....
Win 7 looks far more superior and stable ..... any comments on this ?

4 gb should be enough for now but who know's in 6 month's down the line they might require 6gb of ram for game's, since game's are developing so fast n require more as they develope. Plus pc component can't keep up with the games released. look at crysis when it launched, graphics card could hardly run it on max.

Once uppon a time in a land far far away a wise man once said
"640K ought to be enough for anybody."

mmmm makes you think .... maybe he had something going and just missed
a couple of zeros and missed a spelled K which should have been GB :D

The issue with the 64bit Drivers was with windows xp.
Vista 64bit was more stable than the 32bit so no problems with drivers.
Win 7 is a step up from vista both the 32 and the 64 bit and no driver problems if your running a vista compatible machine. If you have a xp compatible machine then you might run into small troubles going to 7.

So... i thought I would up date everyone on what i got and what happened...

So i decided on 8gigs ddr3 1600mhz ram.... plugged it all in... and started windows... everything seemed fine... until... I got an error after using it for a few minutes ... something in the lines of "....Driver Stopped Responding and Has Recovered ...."

A originally thought i had damaged my graphics card, since the driver it referred to was my display one.... the interwebs advice was to re-install the drivers or my card was bust or bunch of other things... but since i had jsut bought windows 7 and was going to re-install windows anyway... left for day (since i could still watch vids, but couldn't play games since the error would pop up everytime i tried to do anything remotely graphical) ...

So come yesterday... i re-install windows 7 .... it gets to the part where "Configuring components" ... get another error... which tells me to re-install windows... awesome... so after couple retries .... i swap the ram out with the old ram... and wham it installs fine... and now my system doesn't get the original recovered error anymore....

Now i decide to search for 8 gigs and my motherboard model issues.... and come across a known issue with my motherboard.... apparently there is an issue when you use 1600mhz ram.... my motherboard doesn't set the voltage high enough... so basically i can update my bios or I can manually set it in the bios to sort this issue out...... which i will be doing today... and thats it... I will admit i was very relieved to find out nothing was broken....
