AgangSA leader Mamphela Ramphele benefited from Black Economic Empowerment (BEE) deals worth millions of rands, The Star reported on Friday.

The newspaper said Ramphele, through her spokesman Adi Mistry-Frost, confirmed she benefited from R40m worth of BEE deals in five companies.

"With the exception of Pearsons, the BEE deals Dr Ramphele has been involved in were part of her remuneration as a chairperson or director," Mistry-Frost said.

I recall her saying that she doesn't have a problem with the concept but that it was not effectively spreading the wealth. Still think that in bating Zuma it has hurt her own campaign a bit.

What dafuq did I just read. Is the tenderpreneur culture so entrenched that it forms part of formal remuneration packages now?
