Trine 2 -Complete Story

Hoky, just got the game today and played a couple (as in two) of levels.
The first thing that grips me is the amazing artwork. The contrast between elements and how they blend in and out really makes you believe that the world is alive. Pictures of this game does not do it justice. The motion of the things in the game really give it life.

Like most side-scrollers, the controls involves moving, jumping and an action button. The thing that stands out is the need to use all three hero's action to compliment each other to get through a level. Switching of characters is done in real time, so the action never stops. During fight sequences, this is forces the player to think quick on their feet.

The puzzles are challenging, but not tough (IMO). For more casual audiences, a narrator will speak to you after a few minutes if you cannot figure out the puzzle. This brings me to the point of story telling. Although I played a short time, the narration is already standing out. The story itself may not be epic, but the narration is captivating.

9/10 - must play :)

Edit: mind the grammar

Tomb Raider

So. Young Lara. Where to begin... Hmm.
Let's start off with the appearance. No, I don't mean the two reasons why the majority of guys follow Tomb Raider. OK, maybe a little. :p
What I actually mean is the presentation of Lara. In the beginning, she appears as an innocent archaeologist trying desperately to survive the wilds. As the story progresses, the player can see her transforming into the hardcore Lara that fans drool over. The transformation itself is awesome. You can see the stages as she becomes more hardened through the game play. The progression blends in well with the way you level her up.

The gameplay has a big emphasis on exploration. Actually, so much focus such that it affects the game if you don't explore.
So if you don't like exploring, you are going to have a tough time (or have turn done the difficulty). Or, if you have the slightest OCD, then you will spend hours hunting down every collectable for that edge.

The rest is basically falls in line with what other critics say - atmospheric environment, acting etc..
Bottom line:

8/10

As per usual, mind the grammar, it's late Friday

Max Payne 1 - Developed by Remedy Entertainment (Yes I know that I am late to the party :D)

The story of Max Payne is one that you won't soon forget, lots of action and lots of emotion. Max Payne is a renegade undercover NYPD detective, who after the murder of his wife and daughter, starts a one-man assault on the mobsters of New York. The game is presented in the Film-Noir style, and features excellent graphic novel cut-scenes, which are perfectly done.

The main gameplay element is Max Payne's special ability, called Bullet Time. This causes the action to slow down to a cinematic slow motion. This allows Max to perform these amazing jumps through the air while taking out any enemies in his path. The gameplay is based off old Hong Kong action movies and features a bullet time effect similar to that of the Matrix movies. It's also noticeable that the developers have watched a lot of John Woo movies during their production time.

Overall, I rate Max Payne an 8.5/10. The games graphics are old, so I recommend taking a look at PC Game Wiki for the widescreen and sound fixes if you're using Windows 7 or 8. This is a game that everyone should have in their collection.

Just finished the Witcher 2:

The games Graphics are beautifully rendered and will put your gpu through its paces the only thing i could complain about is how the shader sometimes creates lines on peoples faces, that said its not very obvious and most people probably wont even notice.

The sound score was good, although i noticed the 5.1 messed around sometimes, the dialog as most will already know is for mature audiences *cough plough , I actually found it to be amusing and frankly after some thought realised that well if this was real people actually do and would speak in similar fashion given the situation and personalities in my opinion.

The mechanics of fighting was nothing spectacular but it worked well enough ,the game seems to reward thinking and planning your more difficult battles beforehand with the use of potions and traps, I found the battles initially more difficult than most rpg's but after a while it was easy enough and I died very seldomly from chapter 2 onwards.

The story, This game has one of the better story lines have experienced in a rpg for a while,it left me wondering what was going on politically and was not predictable like most rpg's I was left satisfied by the end result and the choices in the game made me actually sit back and weigh out the possible outcomes. The only thing i could complain about was that at times i felt like i was thrown into the deep end as far as geography and characters are concerned , although this can also be seen as a good thing since it makes you read and get more into the politics character and overall world of the game.

I Cant wait to play the latest release of this game, and give it a 8.5/10 its definitely worth playing if you're a fan of rpg's

Afterfall Insanity:

I've wanted to play this game since the first time I saw out, but since it got pretty bad reviews when it came out I decided to wait. Luckily I won it in a steamgifts GA here on mygaming and finally got my chance to play it. I read a lot of reviews and watched a lot of gameplay on youtube so I knew what I was in for, for the most part.

Visually the game is decent, but nothing to write home about. The sound design is OK, but the voice acting is terrible. Some of the worst voice acting I've come across in a game to be honest, although it didn't bother me enough to stop playing completely.

The first half of the game plays somewhat like a Dead Space clone with a few puzzles thrown into the mix here and there, but it changes into a post-apocalyptic shooter/action game about halfway through. Melee combat in this game is not really good and even though there are quite a selection of melee weapons with slightly different animations, they all feel the same and they all have the same finishing animation. You basically just click the mouse until an enemy dies and there is no real challenge throughout the whole game when it comes to melee combat. It doesn't really get any more challenging when you have guns either. In fact, the only times I recall dying throughout the game was during boos fights and puzzles that I didn't solve on time. Some of the puzzles where interesting, but the tutorials for them are mostly useless and you are left to figure what you are supposed to do and how to do it pretty much on your own.

The story was not terrible but also not one of the better stories out there. The story did, however, become predictable pretty early on and I saw the ending coming a mile away and I'm pretty sure everybody that played the game experienced the same thing.

Overall it was not a bad experience and even though I enjoyed most of the game, I'm glad I didn't buy it on release and I probably won't ever play it again. I just hope the developers have learned their lesson and that the sequel will be a better thought out, more polished product. My score is 6.5/10

The last game i played was Uncharted 3.

Great game. i would give it a 8/10. the single player story was about 11 hours.
It would have been less but i eventually figured out that if you died and you reload the last checkpoint your kills you maid before still counted to i started to complete the weapon kill achievements that way.

Minecraft - Technic Custom Mod Pack

as much as i love Minecraft vanilla, with the right mods it turns into a serious RPG. we set out on two mountains overlooking a valley, and the two teams start off creating their fortresses. the hardest to find materials require questing and that keeps the juices flowing with no one guy being stuck mining while the others just build.

quests range from towers, villages to even vol-freaking-canoes! where i would rate MC vanilla a solid 8, with our mod packs its a clear 10!

Company of Heroes 2 - Single player missions

Rating: 8.5/10

The COH franchise is my favorite of all time. Relic have somehow captured the intensity of the world wars in this wonderful series.

COH2 does not make a whole lot of changes to the overall game mechanic but introduces Truesight and weather as changes in COH2.

In the single player missions you play on the Russian side against the Germans. The 14 missions are varied. Graphics remain top notch with their new engine.

COH2 also introduces an RPG element where you gain experience and unlocks as you progress. There is also a Theatre of War mode which allows you to co-op with other players etc. Tons more to explore after the single player missions.

Now to try the online world of COH2.

This.

To elaborate on his post. The online portion is way better than the single player portion ( has always been like that in previous games) I played it with a few friends and it just feels way better than the previous game in the franchise. 9/10 :D

Army of Two - Devil's Cartel - 6/10

I enjoyed it very much especially co-op with friends staying up until early morning :)

If I have one complaint though is that it is way too easy to get the "top-spec" guns etc. Would've been nice if you earned less money and the weapons were more expensive or if there were more to choose from.

Sniper 2: Ghost Warrior

Got it off the Steam summer sale for around $3, so I can't really complain. It feels solid and was on par with CoD / BF single player campaigns & runs off the CryEngine3. It was all about the sniping / sneaking / stealth kills and less about other crap.

The game was a bit short, but for its price, it didn't drag itself out. Bullet-time for far off headshots were similar to those found in sniper elite, except this game comprised of more than 3 colours and had a range of differing settings. I give it a solid 8/10.

a 5/10, the combat is awful the story isn't very good, the humor is not long-lasting....AVOID if possible ;)

The combat does get a bit repetitive, but the humour kept me going.
Story is well... lost half-way through the game. It turns into a brawler of sorts :o

The Walking Dead

Brilliant game! I really enjoyed it from the first episode to the sad conclusion of the fifth episode.
Pros:
Great, emotionally involving story
Believable characters you actually care about
The decisions you make have significant consequences
The stats at the end of each episode that show what percentage of players who made the same decisions as you is a nice touch
Art style is great

Cons:
Had difficulty getting the game to run (had to fiddle with compatibility options in windows)
Occasional delays in scene changes

One of the best adventures I've had in a game. 9/10

Tomb Raider

Wow... Graphics, gameplay and everything was pretty awesome. I didn't try the multiplayer bit (seems they are trying to force MP in everywhere these days), but the SP story was great. I think this was one of the games that actually needed an origins type of game of how it all started. The original basically just started in a cave already with no background.
Some negatives:
- Quicktime events... although, there were very few of them
- Autosave... While not exactly the same as checkpoint saves, they only use one savegame slot and at one stage (62% complete), my game crashed and that saved game got corrupted. Luckily I prevented the corrupted saved game from uploading to the cloud and managed to recover it without losing too much progress.
- Game crashes on multitask

Overall, I'd still score this game around 8.5 out of 10.

Has anybody tried out the multiplayer component of this?

XCOM: Enemy Unknown

Quite good. I saw this game at Rage last year and thought it was interesting, but at a $60 price point, not interesting enough so I picked it up on Steam summer sale. It does have a bunch of irritations though.
- It does become repetitive later on
- Save game bug. At one point, no further progress is saved. Luckily I googled it as soon as I figured out it is happening so I didn't loose much.
- Maths are way off. (95% chance to hit... yeah right)
- Can't skip conversations or pause while computer is making moves. Found this to be really annoying sometimes.

I'll give this one a 7/10.

Kinda in the mood to play some more turn-based games now... Will maybe give Civilization some more playtime again.

Duck Tales Remastered - 4/10

I didn't finish it. Didn't get far into it at all, to be honest. I just get irritated playing it. The added story and cutscenes are totally superfluous. In fact, they are downright horrible.

The game play is alright, but not responsive. I had hoped the controls would match up to the likes of Spelunky and Super Meat Boy. The game is challenging, but not because the challenges require you to develop some platforming skills, but that the controls are fighting against you more than anything.

The music is silly and doesn't really fit the theme of the game.

The dialogue is just cringe worthy. I recently watched a few duck tales episodes and they were actually quite nice. Sure, it's a children's show - but the dialogue and writing there wasn't treating it's audience like a bunch of dumb kids. I think the original Duck Tales actually catered to an audience of children who were able to think at a slightly higher level.

Anyway. This game was a total disappointment.
