The Walking Dead: Season 2

The first game was a masterpiece and easily one of the best games I've ever played. The second is only slightly behind it. I love these games and I'm so glad that they will be making a third season.

I loved it so much that I played the whole game in a day. I can't remember the last time I did something like that.

I never really got further than episode 4 or 5. Became a bit bored with it...

Alan Wake's American Nightmare

I first played Allan Wake on the XBox 360 and I loved it. So it's good to finally get to American Nightmare. It's quite a bit different but it still has an interesting story and it's a lot more lighthearted than the first game. It's also a lot easier even if they took away the auto aim. This time around guns and ammo are all over the place.

This game is a lot more actiony than the first one. There's a lot of shooting and it's not so much about discovery and atmosphere anymore.

It's also quite short. Which is a good thing because it got a bit monotonous. So it ended at the perfect time.

I can definitely recommend it but if you haven't played the original Alan Wake then rather play that.

Finished Lords of the Fallen earlier this morning. I really enjoyed the game, the combat system is great and provides just the right amount of challenge IMO. Depending on how much your farm enemies throughout the game, you can become pretty powerful towards the end of the game, taking away some of the challenge. I didn't really do any farming and finished around lvl 65 with the final areas still being somewhat challenging to me. Just like the Souls games, even the weakest enemy can kill you if you're careless, but this game is nowhere near as punishing as the Souls games. The only downside is the story and voice acting, I pretty much just skipped all the dialogue and only had a faint idea of what the story is, but that didn't really bother me. The game isn't that long (took me about 15 hours or so to finish), but the length felt right. Any longer and I think the character would have become too powerful.

Outlast

I've been wanting to play a good horror game for a while now and picked up Outlast during the Steam Winter sale. That first 30 minutes is so tense that most people stop playing. Especially after looking at all the reviews that have been posted. If you continue playing you start realising that Outlast uses a system and once you understand the system the game becomes a lot less scary.

The tension stays throughout the game though and I found that I played about 30 minutes a time after which I had to take a break.

The game isn't perfect and has some faults, most glaringly places in the game where you have to perform 3 fetch type quests to continue. Also they could have made the character models better. The actual environments are amazing though. As is the sound! Plus the game keeps throwing new twists into the mix that keeps everything interesting.

I loved it so much that I bought the DLC directly after finishing the game and I'm glad to see that they are working on a sequel.

Outlast: Whistleblower DLC

Absolutely amazing. I loved the dlc even more than the original game. It is horror at its finest. I can't wait for Outlast 2!

Alice: Madness Returns

I died more in Alice than playing Dark Souls. I found the precision jumping frustrating and not really my kind of thing. The story is good though and I'm glad I finished it. I honestly can't recommend it to anyone though which is sad because I can see that the developers put a lot of work into this game. The environments are pretty and well thought out but where Dark Souls rewards you for getting past a difficult part, Alice well just doesn't give you that feeling of satisfaction.

I saw user reviews where people loved it though so maybe it's just me.

Only If

I saw that it got really bad ratings but some people were giving it good reviews and I somehow got the impression that the game is better now than at launch. Plus the screenshots looked pretty so I thought I'll give it a try.

Oh man. I normally finish games but I haven't even gotten an hour into Only If and I can't stand it anymore. I can see why it's free. It's probably the worst game I've ever played. I mean even Raptr gives me the rank of Experienced with only half an hour played.

The game goes against basic game design. It's as if the developer did it on purpose. Stay away. Far away.

Lego Harry Potter : Years 5-7 (PS Vita/PS TV)

6/10. Was fun, but a bit of a grind for some of the stuff. Was part of my PS+ backlog so slowly working my way through them.

Valiant Hearts: The Great War (PS4)

Loved this game! So many tear-jerking moments.

Also got it, but yet to start it, and reading all the positive reviews I might just pause playing a few games I'm currently busy with to start this one.

Hotline Miami

When I first saw what it looked like, I was very skeptical but once I started playing I realised what all the hype was about.

It's very addictive! And just like Dark Souls it rewards you for getting through difficult parts. Then there's the music! It sets such a great atmosphere.

The story ends without a lot of answers and I'm surprised to see that most of my friends either didn't finish the game and those that did didn't play the additional levels. The extra little story is short and gives some more information.

I can definitely recommend Hotline Miami.

Enslaved: Odyssey to the west (PC)

Wow. I got this game on some kind of sale before going away in December for very cheap. Never heard of this game before and solely bought the game based on graphics from the screen shots and the trailer. I thought this game was pretty awesome. Sure, the combat does get a bit repetitive, but the story, variety of gameplay and everything combined for the price I bought it for. Wow.
I'd rate it 8.5 / 10.

The Cat Lady

Cat_Lady_Film_Trailer_Chapter_One.mp4.jpg

A game made in AGS that looks amateurish. Sometimes the voice acting gets really bad and I'm pretty sure the voice actors were never in the same room together. That they recorded their own lines at home. The game runs at a native resolution of 800x600 with various settings to stretch it or have black borders. And during the first couple of chapters there was a graphic issue where some of the dialogue options were cut off because the font was too big. This fixed with a patch though.

And yet my wife played it first and she said it was the second best game she has ever played. She loved it so much that she sent the developers an email to tell them how great it was. She changed her Windows background to a The Cat Lady picture.

The Cat Lady is not for everyone. Both my wife and I struggled with depression when we were younger and this game deals with that. Depression and suicide. And it does it better than any other game I've ever played. The ending is outstanding. Something happens after the credits that brought a smile to my face and makes one think a bit.

I really hope the developers get a big budget one day because developers like these can do with the resources to fund a game properly. I can just imagine what they can do with better graphics, technology and voice acting.
