Receiving a gift in steam

I've got a question regarding receiving gifts in steam:
When someone send you a gift, you always get an email AND a notification through the steam app, right?

If it's something you sent it will be in your inventory until the person actually claims it. If it something you received, click on the little envelope in the top right corner, then click on gifts. If it's not there, they didn't send it, or you already claimed it and added it to your library.
 
Perfect. Exactly what I was looking for. I won a gift on steamgifts, but received a dodgy-looking email looking like a Steam gift, but I haven't received a notification through Steam and there's no gifts pending on that little envelope.
So now I'm quite skeptical...

Maybe you should contact their support. It could be a phishing link.
 
Sometimes people send keys rather than steam gifts, which afaik is alright. Not sure if that was the case here.
