Recommend Lan Games

The Old Warcraft tower Defense game,Soldat is also a nice 2d shooter game that you can lan,The half life games were also tons of fun when i was still at school (We had a computer room at school and we could play on them during break for R5 to play or R1 to watch, not many students knew but it was where i spend the rest of my school break. We played with around 5-10 players each day,all of the games on the PC's were pirated versions installed by students)

Ok so counter strike for FPS easy enough to get hold of , min spec requirements
Then warcraft cause I mods maps more easily accessable to me
RTS ???
Racing ???
Might as well add a fighting or brawler to the list ?

James btw that is a good idea for an article should create a thread and do and article on the top 6 results

Lanned Blur before, it's quite fun :)

There is only one rule when it comes to LAN games...you must match the game to the crowd. That right there makes or breaks the experience.

e.g.

I had a good friend that was on the same level as me in terms of RTS...so we held 2 man LAN playing hardcore RTS...like 6+ hour games. That was legendary.

I had a group of friends that jammed counterstrike...so we played hours of that CS rats map with the kitchen. Legendary fun.

I had another group of friends that jammed warcraft 3 tower defenses...wild times.

Another group rocked unrealT, and yet another rocked dota (I can hold my own ground in all of them...except this one)

Point is each was legendary, but the crowds don't mix...at all. The overlap between those 5 groups is minimal...except for me...but all of them were fun because the game suited the crowd & vibe. I really can't imagine any of the groups playing any of the other games for more than a little bit.

Only sad part is that *all* of the crowds above kinda disappeared as time went past. :( I miss lans.

this is pretty much what I am trying to find out , which type of games would interest these little guys
Remember when you were a gaming virgin and then one glorious day some friend showed you Unreal and you were hooked

COD4
Unreal
Red Alert 2
team fortress

COD4 i forgot how much fun it was till my friend came over the other night and we played 1 v 1 it was sooo much fun, Def play COD4
How about some Age of Empires, its a really great game.
Or some Half Life the original old one, great fun that one too.
Unreal, is also fun but dont play against someone whose good at the game u just get owned the whole time.

Age of Empires 2 is an old RTS that people SWEAR by for LANs.
A group of friends used to love the Warhammer 40k RTS (Can't remember its name though).

For racing, Trackmania is so much fun. Flatout 2 is also a lot of fun to LAN.

PCs aren't great for fighters imo because keyboards are unwieldy - most can only have 2 inputs at a time which severely limit combos that use movement and A/B buttons at the same time.

Racing games that we use to LAN:
- NFS Most Wanted (the first one, released in 2005)
- Grid 1
- DIRT 2
- Blur (as mentioned by Kwaai)

Most wanted is probably the most casual, with Blur being mario kart like.

Trackmania Nations (and it's free).

We use to lan jazz jackrabbit alot at school.

And like previously posted Lost Planet 2, I lanned it with onboard graphics on my C2D so it won't be an issue.
