Red Dead Redemption

The multiplayer (competitive and free roam) looks awesome!
I wonder if it will make a dent in the COD-alike shooter multiplayer market? (I would suspect not though.)

I dont think it will. It will probably hook the same crowed that Uncharted hooked.

At least this is multi-platform and not PS3 exclusive like Uncharted. That is the only game that made me regret getting a Xbox.

For a review from author of Ctrl Alt Del comics. http://www.cad-comic.com/

My favourite part of the review, "In fact, I ran out of people to play poker with. I purchased a suit that allows you to try and cheat at poker. If you get caught, someone at the table calls you out and challenges you to a duel. I got caught a lot, and I had to murder everyone at the table."

HAHAHA! Looks like it is really going to be lotsa fun.

Gah! A buddy of mine is seriously not rating this game, and I often trust his opinions. So many things feel disjointed for him. There seems to be a lack of meaningful things to do, and little to buy / upgrade. Also you can't play bad since they game just punishes you within seconds of killing a group of people. Basically this is GTA with a Western skin to him.

Maybe it is early days, I told him to play it some more to see if it fleshes out, but now I am pensive about picking this up.

Yeah, I will admit he can be odd with his tastes at times, perhaps too demanding, but largely I trust him.

Been doing some reading and looking for intelligent posts on both sides of the coin, and well, I am not yet convinced. Going to do some more reading. I am just so sick of paying large sums for games that lack soul. All Icing no Cake.

It is the AWESOMENESS! Buy it, you won't regret it (unless of course you don't like awesome open-world games). :p

I love open-world games, but I don't know. Will there be enough to keep me going in it for say 20hrs?

What you may be feeling now is - New-Game Syndrome or NGS. Under its effects you are likely to bound with joy, and post how much you love said title on a plethora of forums, the whole time looking for the ever not so elusive Internet High-Five's (it was intentional), which many thrive on. And then reality can set-in several hours later.... man, this game kinda sucks....

Waiting for the dust to settle on this one. Once the, "ZOMG THIS GAEM ROXXXZZ!!!1" clams down a bit, and some people start getting more critical. But I am glad you are having fun, or anyone else for that matter ;)

I get what you're saying man, but I know I good game when I see one. I don't know about other people, but I can see myself puting way more than 20 hours into the singleplayer alone and a lot more into the multiplayer. I love most, if not all, Rockstar games and this one is no exception. The story is awesome so far, the voice acting is great as always, the graphics are really good and the gunplay is top notch. The character physics are really, really awesome as well.

I am giving in and will pick it up likely tomorrow. Too many people and places are saying it is amazing. My buddy can sometimes overreact to games, and I think this is one of those cases.

Got home from our honeymoon yesterday and picked this up on the way to our house. lol. Haven't played it yet, but it's sitting on the coffee table waiting to be loaded :D

Chrome you should really play the singleplayer, it's absolutely brilliant.
The multiplayer is pretty awesome too, when you don't kill my horse :p

From the many reviews I've been reading, it looks like you'll get 30-40 hours on your first playthrough, much more if your one of the those 100% completion types =)

If getting 100% completion is as much fun and involving as GTA4's was, I bet I would be spending at least 70+ hours for my first 2 playthroughs.

Second playthrough is usually my 100% completion and trophy collecting run, making sure I check all points, collect all goodies, do all side-quests, etc.

Then there is also the MP bit I would love to give a go this time around. But I wont be doing that until Rockstar at least sorts out the invisibility glitch.
