Registry...can you advise on a cleaner?

Hey there all, so I need to clean my registry, as it won't re-install a game that was removed by force (i.e, NOT via uninstaller that came with the game) and I know it's just that game as I have installed two more games since then and they have worked fine.

I just did a quick Google search and this was the top one, it looked the best: http://www.eusing.com/free_registry_cleaner/registry_cleaner.htm

Now I don't know if I should go with this one, is there a better one that you would recommend? And would this one be safe? I don't want to tamper in there without know that I will be safe. And I do create backups etc, so I should be safe but still...

I am using Xp Pro Sp2.

Thanks for the help guys.

Wow never seen this threat.

http://www.auslogics.com/en/ I would recommend these guys for your defrag and Registry troubles.
There Duplicated files finder is also really awesome if you got lots of movies or music.

As for ccleaner its good but I had 4 times where it made my windows crash and I had to reformat since even a repair did not work.

Ok, I ran both teh Ccleaner and the registry cleaner from auslogics and the game still didn't work, hwever I removed tons of eroors, which was nice, so thanks :)

Yeah that's not the job of a Registry cleaner. Only way is for a repair install, or some other stuff for a game to work.

I thought that it might be the registry as it was getting a bit clogged up. and effectively my game is now useless. I have even tried the uninstall on the disc, but that doesn't help. The installer doesn't even work! The files are gone (idiot IT guy deleted them) so now I'm at a loss.

The best cleaner, imo, is a solid format :)

I have used registry cleaners before, but they only help for awhile before something else messes up the registry.

haha, that's only a last resort, although I proabably will have to do that. But I ahve so much stuff on there that to re-install would take ages for just a few prgrams, that need certificates, etc. I would be killed if I did that.

Ja, I did that. On my other computer. That one won't run Win7, and I can't touch the laptop (the one I'm typing from). So...no more of that game for me. Will wait until I get a new one.

I Think if you are having some problem in playing a game... you need to work again on the installation process again.
Check the process of installation & you need to properly place the file in that folder where game is in order to edit the registry ...
I may be wrong if this is not what you are looking for.

@OP

Bad IT guy

I took the time and learnt my way around the registry (mainly for virus/malware removals and scripting logon scripts for our GP)...

I take it when you removed it by force you deleted the installation folder straight out of the game directory/program files? Most games are difficult to get rid of that way due to the .dll files they place in the Windows\System32 directory and the associations created in the registry - DoW 2 is a good example.

AFAIK CCleaner has an uninstall feature... see if the game is listed (it probably would still be in the registry), and try uninstall it that way

PM me if you're still having problems
