Remanufactured PS3?? What?

Hey guys...

Referring to my post here , I gave Partserve a call today. I have the day off tomorrow and figured to rather be safe than sorry and have the console exchanged before it packs up completely.

So I called them before to find out if they have stock before I make my journey there tomorrow.

Although they do not have stock :mad: the lady on the phone described the whole swop procedure to me and then said I will be issued with a "remanufactured" console.

I asked her if it's a refurbished console but she said that it isnt...

Anyone have any idea wtf that is?
 
lmao @ re-manufactured. So they took a perfectly made PS3 apart, and then put it together again. That's what I understand from that term. I think you're going to be issued with someone else's PS3 that was fixed in the meantime.
 
Well, here then is the official response from Ster Kinekor. Apparently the units are brand new:


Ster-Kinekor Entertainment (SKE) understands the frustration of investing money in a unit that does not perform as expected and strives to provide solutions which assist both the retailer and their customers. SKE has therefore introduced a policy which allows Retailers to honour an in store exchange for a new console within 30 days of giving a manufacturing fault. From day 31 onwards Part serve will service the solutions to the customer's concern. All parties need a clear timeline to deal with the respective solutions and 30 days is the time line SKE has settled with.

Customer is correct, when he contacted Part serve they did not have inventory. This issue will be solved by today. I have chatted to the lady who arranges inventory for Part serve & she has assured me that PS3 250 GIGs will arrive with Part serve today.

Please let customer know that SKE supplies Part serve with BRAND NEW inventory to be used as replacement units. Although they are not handed to him in a sealed box, these units still need to be checked by Part serve before handing to him.

Part serve are chosen by Sony Computer Entertainment Europe as the preferred partners for Playstation maintenance in South Africa.

The partners will solve customer's concerns as soon as they have his unit.

There is a difference in Re manufactured and Re furbished, If the unit is not sealed it is considered Re manufactured
 
I really hope they have stock as promised today. Phoned them yesterday afternoon and still nothing.

Tried to install the Skate 3 demo last night....quit it after 45 mins and the progress bar being at 3%, so guess this PS3 bit the dust.
 
They are full of crap i dealt with them when my 60gb pack up last year july, i got the replacement unit back in december when i forgot about the 60GB unit and already bought a 120Gb unit in september. So i agree there service is shitty. But when they have units it instant no waiting time.

On the Remanufatured or refurbished issue. The replacement console comes in a new box all sealed up, looks like new works like new. So i dont see the point of what the difference is.

True. Still not cool but according to the sterkinekor guy "Please let customer know that SKE supplies Part serve with BRAND NEW inventory to be used as replacement units." So in my opinion somewhere someone is talking bull.

But, alas I managed to get mine swopped this morning. Hopefully no more issues from here on out....
 
You shouldn't have any issues. The new replacement machine come with later edition parts the plder parts arent used again due to failure rates being higher.
 
I agree between partserve and SKE someone is lying but you find out, so don't bother with them. Its like figuring out our goverment, and if they actually are working for the people or themselves.
 
A guy from PlayStation also phoned me. He said that the stock at partserve now is new. Apparently they sometimes give refurb, other times new. Also, my swopped one's box did not have a sticker on it indicating it was referb, so, guess it's new :)
