New TV series based on the Resident Evil and Mortal Instrument franchises have been revealed by German production house Constantin Film.

According to Variety, the Resident Evil series will launch after the next and final film in the long-running franchise. The sixth film is currently being written with no release date, and we don't know whether they'll be any crossover in terms of cast or characters. Seeing as Constantin is also in charge of the movies however, it's not beyond the realms of possibility.

lightly more information is known about The Mortal Instruments spin-off, with the site also pointing to Ed Decter (“Unforgettable,” “The Client List” and “In Plain Sight”) stepping into the role of showrunner when production starts next year.

The Mortal Instruments was originally planned to be a film series but, after the first film bombed at the box office, production on the second installment stalled. Despite rumours since that the movie could still happen, the news about the TV show pretty much puts the nail in the coffin for any big screen adaptations, at least in the immediate future.

Resident Evil will directed by Paul W.S. Anderson again, wont it?

The last installment was difficult to watch... Had an urge to constantly want to do something else.

The last one was HORRIBLE... And it was such a pity because Iv really enjoyed this "series" of movies so far... partly because Milla Jovovich, and partly because i LOVED the original series of games... But the last movie... With that guy with the glasses all dressed in black... it was pretty cringe worthy to be honest...
